Hint 1: Pick up objects to throw at your opponent or to hit them.
Hint 2: The first two stages are the kitchen and the garden.
Hint 3: Not a Nintendo game. I also didn't play it on a Nintendo console, even though it's available on one.
Hint 4: Cat vs mouse.

#27
Hint 1: Since this game wants to show the possibilities of the new console, you don't need to push any buttons.
Hint 2: Character from a popular franchise that got its own games.

#25
Hint 1: Among the characters in the game, there are now also a bee and a caterpillar.

Hmm... Super Metroid?

Yar! Pretty easy one.

26. Donkey Kong 64

First Played: 1999

Times Completed: 3

Not quite the followup to the DKC trilogy that I had hoped for, but this game is certainly good enough and more closely resembles Banjo Kazooie or Mario 64. Even aspects that frustrated me initially, like the reuse of mini games, doesn’t bother me anymore and I enjoy most of them. Exploration is very important in collectathons and Dk64 has large levels and some specific sections for the 5 different Kongs. As a testament to how much I enjoy playing this game, I even completed it on Wii U, with the barely functioning analog implementation that N64 games suffer from on that console. The music is good, even if not up to DKC standards and the DK Isles music always reminded me of FFVII’s overworld theme.

25. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time

First Played: 2009

Times Completed: 4

The best Ratchet and Clank game released so far. This time there is a bigger focus on platforming than some of the previous games, bringing the mix of third person shooting and platforming closer to the original game, except both are greatly improved. Other than that, it’s just a really good refinement of the Ratchet and Clank formula and the weapons are as creative and fun as ever. I really enjoy flying around in space and landing on the mini planets, which all offer little challenges.

24. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

First Played: 2019

Times Completed: 1

A new 2D platform game by the developers of DKC? Yes please! This is the newest release on my list, only being out for a couple of months. I think a hypothetical DKC 4 might’ve been like this, with the greater exploration of the overworld, massively building on the minimal expansion in DKC 3. Really it serves as a way to meld the exploration of Banjo Kazooie with the 2D levels of DKC. Throw in the level changing mechanic and the ultimate challenge, the Impossible lair and you have one of my favourite games in the 2D platform genre. Tonics can be equipped to alter abilities, make things easier in various ways or just to give a cosmetic change.

Playing through this gave me the same feeling of joy as Sonic Mania did a couple of years ago, the levels are wonderfully designed and the music is amazingly good, provided by David Wise and Grant Kirkhope. I'll have to see how this game fares over time, but right now it's right up there with my favourites.

Ok, things are getting busy and I might not be able to visit for a couple of days (we'll see) so I'll dump a few hints. We are now passed the half way point (which is further than I made it last year) and the top three guessers of my list so far are

1. SanAndreasX with 7 correct guesses

2. Darashiva with 4 correct guesses

3. TruckOSaurus with 3 correct guesses

Time for the hints

23. Instead of a 3D version of the first ever stage, this 20th anniversary game makes new versions of many of the games so far.

22. Your nemesis built a theme park, but enslaved a bunch of aliens to do it.

21. This game gave rise to the now common name for a subgenre and asks an important question in the beginning, exactly what are we? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, guessed by The_Liquid_Laser

20. The publisher released this highly anticipated, critical smash hit in the UK with an ill-conceived slogan "Willst thou get the girl? Or play like one?" Yeah that didn't go down well, but the game sure did.
