29. Final Fantasy IX

First Played: 2001

Times Completed: 5

A very nostalgic game for me, this was the third FF game I played when I was still new to the series and each new game was another magical, amazing experience. The music and pre-rendered backgrounds help to create some truly memorable locations and the story and characters are top notch. It’s still a classic game and I thoroughly enjoy any playthrough, there is always something new to discover. Unfortunately, I'll probably never go for the Excalibur II, since I always like to take my time with games like this.

Time, it will not wait...no matter how hard I hold on, it escapes me...and...I already have to do another batch of hints

24. It's not impossible, but it's almost impossible the first time.

Oof, I'm finally done catching up. Sorry for the spam, everyone! Here's my hint for tomorrow's game:

#28 - A 2D game where every last bit of the map was handpainted, without any reused assets.

I think this could be a lot of games, I'd like it to be SaGa Frontier II, but I know it won't be, so I'll guess Cuphead.

#29 - Pokemon Black Version - DS

Um, well, this is kind of awkward for me.

But before the awkward, I very much love Gen 5 of Pokemon, I hate catching and running into old Pokemon in new generations, so the idea of creating a main game revolved around an entire new Pokedex was just genius, it worked most of the time with having Pokemon that while they were the "replacement" in a way to some older mons, they had different types to make up for the comparison, other times it didn't because they didn't bring much besides a different design, but it was a mostly great generation in that aspect.

Unova itself is a region I very much like, from its simple structure, a big city that doesn't suck like Lumiose and well designed progression. I love a lot of the characters, Gym leaders seem to have a bigger purpose and presence, plus the likes of Bianca, Cheren and N, especially N, are well constructed friends/rivals, N is so well done it makes up for the tradition that really only Lusamine broke, of having very bland villains.

Also had a very neat detail of replacing the low health beep by making it an actual music track and is great. Also is home to the best Victory Road, from the build up of Route 10 and the badges, the actual Road, just fantastic. And its credits theme is second to none in Pokemon.

I would have a lot more to praise on its music and sound design details as the only one that had it, but Gen 8 kinda took the place as my favorite OST, plus it expands on the dynamic music idea of Gym fights, so it isn't something that only Gen 5 has, also my favorite rivals being on Gen 8 now and gym leaders and the champion having around the same if not even more purpose in the progression of the game.

I still love this generation, but it has some more competition now, currently I'm replaying Black, just to define my actual favorite game of this series, it has been years since I played it and this time I want to look at it without my nostalgia for it. Will always hold a special place in my heart tho.

Good guesses but wrong on all of them. Close on 26, the game I'm thinking of is older though. I have to say Majora's Mask does really fit the hint I gave, but it's actually a completely different game.

27 and 25 are correct.

#28 - Donkey Kong 94' - GB

Before the Mario vs Donkey Kong series, we had this, same gameplay idea as that game, small puzzle rooms that Mario has to traverse through, get your key, open the door, next level.

I suppose it was very cool to play it for the first time back then, since it starts with the original DK arcade game and then opens up this massive adventure after those first levels.

Is filled with clever puzzles the whole way and you can also make things faster or more optimized by using Mario's special techniques like the somersault and wall jump, is kind of like a Metroid sequence break strat, just in a smaller scale with these puzzles, makes it very fun to replay once you know what you are doing.

Also waiting for this to get remixed in Smash Bros.

Time for top 30 hints.

30- This game also came later in the system's life, but it certainly was a worthwhile game to play. The antagonist returns somehow and they kill one of your friends. Fortunately you still have many of your old friends, and the one killed returns as a ghost. Unlike it's predecessor, this game is a fully functional 3d world.

29- One of the best FPS's, and the third highest on my list. This game features a completely unique story. In one hand use weapons, and in the other use magical powers. Loot the many objects or enemies for money and ammunition. The setting was once a utopia, but things are starting to get out of control.

28- Another FPS, this time it is from a famous annual franchise. This game in particular had the best zombie mode and multiplayer in my opinion. On one map in the soviet union, you could form 4 perfect circles and beat each wave infinitely. While it wasn't a difficult task at first, eventually boredom and endurance become an issue.
