Forums - Microsoft - Rumour: GTAIV DLC on Xbox 360 will include new city!!!!!! OMFG!!!!

@madskills
I never doubted that MS would make that money back. My point was that the money was an advance not a payment, since this is the case there was no money exchanging hands that went solely for the purpose of making it exclusive. The exclusivity was brokered into the deal for the loan essentially making it free for MS. That being said I highly doubt R* is going to miss the boat on 4 or 5 million PS3 owners that want that content as well.

I still hear people calling this $50 million dollars a full payment when in all actuality its an advance meaning take 2 is paying back every penny. Why would they give MS full exclusivity for free???

PS: if some of you had read every post in the thread like you claim you would already know this. So I'll re-post the link so it's easier to find.

@ Shura - rolling on the floor laughing my butt off.

@ rasone - actually, R* offered GTA series exclusivity to MS for free back in the day - and they shunned it. R* took the free exclusivity to Sony and created a riot. MS couldn't lock down complete or even timed exclusivity, so they went to ... you guessed it - digital download. And they paid T2 for it - granted the episode makes over $50M. They just have to sell 1.25M copies of the DLC to make money. Maybe there is an escape clause that will put it on the PS3 - maybe not. But I can tell you, based on attach rates, R* will make that money and then some. Just watch and see.

1.25 million... uhh... no?

You forget that there's all types of costs with putting stuff on XBLA.  It's not just pay 10 bucks (800 MS) and it's all profit.  So 1.25 million is probably fairly understated.  If MS get's half of it, then 2.5 million, but they could get much less than that.  Who knows?  But 1.25 is probably not the amount of DLC they need to sell, since we don't know how much money MS gets from every piece of that sold.

On-topic:

I still don't get this thread.  No one knows what the DLC is.  It's all speculation in this thread.  Maybe it's a city, maybe it's a new weapon, maybe it's some missions [probably] but who knows.  It may just wind up being like Mass Effects "Bring down the sky" DLC.  It doesn't have to be huge.

It's hard to imagine them being that large even if they're using the engine and a lot of assets off the game disc. Each DLC would likely have to be several gigs in size, probably in the 3-4 gig range.

matrix in hd was 6 gigs I have 15 mb down and 2 up with verizon fios and a 120 gig hd so no big deal here also 50 mil. buys a lot of exclusivity!

What happens when Rockstar release dlc for PS3 because they may release new material not found in the xbox dlc. So that would be hilarious but a long way off.

not really because they would be selling it for a price and extending thier game eliminating the middle man and putting more in thier pocket. funny cause both versions had some thing different yes but look at soulcaliber with yoda and darth vader something different.

I got the CVG mag today, ( cost me £5!)

And i feel quite assured that Rockstar did not see Vice City and San Andreas as sequels otherwise they would have been called GTA 4 and 5 but rather as expansion to the original GTA3.

Whilst the idea of the DLC being on that sort of scale is nutz, Rockstar have said they want to push the Xbox live market place to the limits. I don't think they would expect to do that with adding new cars and weapons but we should rather expect them to deliver something mind blowing on a large scale.

So i think the talk of the DLC being on that scale is not crazy talk, it is something that is trying to redefine DLC.

1. Why aren't Microsoft advertising this? (This could be one of the most foolish acts in the history of the video game industry if Microsoft let an opportuinty like this fly by.)

2. What about the rumours the DLC is only an additional 10 hours of gameplay?

Yeah I know, i just want to know what the hell it is!
They can always heavily advertise it during the Autumn when it is released but i would expect to hear some news in the next few weeks of what it actually contains.

I think for certain it would be a mission pack at minimum.

isnt there a limit on the size of download via XBlive?

Microsoft would most certainly make exceptions.

I don't understand why MS isn't advertising exactly what the DLC is. It seems we would know right now. I'll stick it where the PS3 splitscreen rumor was, until proven true.

BTW, I'm still buying the PS3 version because more of my friends have that console, and I'm only a silver XBL member because I don't want to pay for online.

I'm one of the customers that Sony won by making the online free. I'm more interested in solid single player experiences and only want to hop online every once in a while.

My 360 is for Namco, Mistwalker, and Team Ninja games.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
