Forums - Sports Discussion - The NFL Thread 2019: The Kansas City Chiefs Win Super Bowl LIV

Who do you believe will have a stronger defense in 2020?

Patriots 2 66.67%

Steelers 1 33.33%

Total:3

I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting from this game, but it sure as hell wasn't this!

I was expecting a close game with the better end for the Ravens, but apparently the Titans are even better than I thought.

It's not just that, but also the Ravens playing sloppy. I've lost count of how many passed they've dropped.

Edit: And bad throws Lamar Jackson has made like that 2nd INT just now.

The advantage of being the underdog.

Incredible

Lamar Jackson looks more interested in being a RB than a QB.

Aaaaaand Game Over.

The Ravens also make errors in coaching decisions. They should have gone for a field goal in the third quarter when the game was still close enough, instead they got stuffed by the Titans defense.

And now that they've got their first TD, they go for a 2PC. Psychologically, you shouldn't go for a 2PC until you really have to. At 22 points down, you do 7, 7 and then 8 to tie the game. You don't go for 8 the first time, because if you fail like the Ravens did, you are forced to go for 2PCs another two times.

Assuming you're committed to a scenario where you're down 22, have to score three times and never let the other team score to win, going for 2 on the first try is exactly what you should do, because you're going to have to try a two point conversion regardless.

On the one hand, if you try the 2 point conversion on the first attempt and fail, then you at least still have a chance (albeit a small one) by getting successful conversions on the next two tries. Failing the first two point isn't an immediate death knell.

On the other, if you wait until the last touchdown to go for two and fail, then you're almost assuredly screwed. There's no way to make up those lost points, barring an onside kick or something. Failing the first (and only) two point try is a near guaranteed game over.

Whether you try sooner or later, your chances of converting a two point are the same. But if you try it early on and fail, you still have opportunities to make up for it.

Talk about a paradigm shift.
With the Ravens out, whoever wins tomorrow night's game between the Chiefs and Texans will host the AFC Championship game.

This is what happens when players/coaches encourage a running QB. When it matters most -especially in the playoff- your passing game starts to show its cracks because you were too focused on the hype of the regular season running game. When the big boys come to play, not only are they gonna expose your shaky pass game but they will crush your run attempts. Lamar Jackson is a choke artist in the playoffs. It will happen again and again if he doesn't grow his passing game through next regular season. The coaching staff are to blame too because they drank the kool-aid and allowed him to get a big head. Ironically I watched highlights of Ravens last one and out playoff game and Lamar genuinely cracks under the pressure of high stake games.

All that being said, we have to give the Titans credit. They are for real and I'm giving into the hype. Their defense and Henry are crazy fun to watch.

Also worth mentioning. Look how Lamar starting running in the second half when he lost confidence in his QB skills and his receivers. He will NEVER win a playoff game if he gives up and resorts to running the ball himself when he's up against a great pass defense. He's basically saying "I only trust myself". He has worst throwing IQ than I first thought, especially since he has the mindset to just take off instead of reading for more receivers.
