Hate to say it but go onto ResetEra and there's tons of interesting discussions, especially about sales.

It is the first page that people see and it is outdated by a decade. Biggest thing is there is far too much text, text that is too small, too cluttered, not nice to look at, and I am sure more. I know Talon has his work cut out for him when he returns, but the team here wants to turn this site around and a modernizing of the front page will help start that. For anyone that hasn't followed us on our social media pages we post all the articles on there and run the occasion polls. |
If he returns

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

A lot of it probably comes from Politics, too.
It's a shame. Staff, Admins are really putting a lot of effort into keeping the site alive. I was shocked the Switch sales thread wasn't posted, I had completely forgotten about it as well.
I guess, as users, we can try to make sure relevant topics like those are always in the front page.
Too many people are saying that VGChartz should not die. Yes it should. We do not have the ability to be VGChartz anymore; We cant track SW, because we don't have access to digital sales which are growing and growing and growing every year. We have games as service: PSNow, Stadia, and MS's counterpart that has currently slipped my mind. What are we going to be do about that growing sector next gen? Many pictures that we cant paint. We need to accept it. We need to move on.
We need to have our own resetera and migrate over to new site. Our DNA can still apart of the new site but it will not be the focus. Matter of fact yall wanted to start tracking movies, well on our suppose new site we it would make more sense because constrained by that "VG" part. That new site needs to also be a modern site. Site design has moved away from cluttered designs like and has become more UI focused due to the fact that browsing the internet is no longer exclusive to computers. VGChartz didnt get the memo because using VGChartz on anything but a computer is devastating.
On our members; we suck. There is a general lack of interest in video games. There is a general lack of interest in video games. There is a general lack of interest in video games. What is going with this site that it has gotten to this point? We are not attracting the group of people who just want to talk about video games. We cant talk about the new upcoming video games, but we can talk about why the Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and Wii U bombed for the millionth time. It is time to leave those topics alone.
It is a focus problem
it is a design problem
it is a us problem

I'm amazed you managed to type that three times without realizing it doesn't read what you meant to say. |

Fixed that up. Original thought was there is general disinterest in video games but changed it up a little without changing emotion part.

Speak for yourself, E3 and Fire Emblem were the reasons I even came back here.
I feel this site has been that way for a long while, moreso now sure, but other sites have always had better discussions about the games themselves. It's probably due to the broad range of topics allowed on this site, but that's what I like about this place, easy to get viewpoints from all fronts.
What's most annoying to me is that while I bust my backside to try to spur meaningful discussion, my timezone means the site is dead as a graveyard at midnight throughout most of my day.
There seems to be a lot more activity during the hours I'm asleep as I always wake up to a bunch of replies to the threads I'm in, but once I've responded to those, for the rest of the day, fuck all.

My guy. Stop it.
We are in a situation similar to Gamestop where our fate is sealed because we will get to a point where what we do will not be relevant/achievable. How will we handle Google Stadia? Both SONY and MS have already let it be known they will not let google rule that sector and to expect a huge effort to bloster their own games as a service platforms. How will track that? We could be looking at the last traditional HW run for both SONY and MS (definitely MS. They in love with games as a service)depending on reception next gen. Hell, we a month behing in HW now!
It's a shame to see VGC in this state, but I have always been wondering: which sites people frequent these days? Forgive my ignorance, but this site, along with Nintendo Everything, are the only exclusively gaming-focused sites in English I visit. Anything else comes from Reddit, YouTube and occasional visits to ResetEra.
My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
