Forums - PC Discussion - The Epic Store won't accept 'crappy games,' says Tim Sweeney

I was excited when they said they were okay with the R rating but then they said no porn games and lost me haha I don't hate on other genres why they gotta hate on mine. :'(

Because they (and a few here) want you to buy games they want you to buy and play, not what you want. That's what full on curation is all about.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

I think this is a good move although the mountains of crap on Steam never really affected me. I never go on the store not knowing exactly what I wanna buy. So as long as the search function works, I don't see the asset flips and other cash-in games.

This

Also as long as you don’t buy crappy games , you won’t see crappy games

I don’t understand why people can’t just avoid what they don’t have interest in

its the same logic when going to a physical store, you aren’t gonna like everything at the store or agree with it but you move on cause you go shopping for something you know what you want lol

@Basil So you are okay with Steam filling up there library with unfinished, unplayable games costing ridiculous prices accessible for the general public? I guess you have no issues with school shooting simulators and rape games aswell because you can just ignore them.. cool. Maybe one day your kids might play them instead, but its okay because you can ignore them.

My problem with Steam is what they release are not even video games, and if they are than its a bad image for video games.

I used this example before in a previous post.  The Steam achievement system is broken, because now you can buy games that automatically unlock 60000+ achievements all for a low price because of Steam allows it. Whats next. The economy is being destroyed and all you guys/gals say "we can just ignore them"

Fornite and Epic store have the same owner.

Amen to that.

If im not wrong they also denied porn games... now im not one to buy said games but i like the option to have them on a store i can trust in case i ever find one i would be interested in.

Unfinished/unplayable games? You mean like the early access games?

Sorry but I have in my tags to remove such games so I dont see them nor do I buy them.

Kinda like how I dont go to certain aisles at the store - for an example, I dont go into the women's aisle where they sell women products because...I'm not a woman?

100% agree.  I do think it sucks that some devs put games on their that they have no plans to really finish.  Still, it's up to people not to continue to buy into those games and it will end, which is what I do.  Also, someone mentioned earlier that Epic does allow early access, too, so...

Link me a store page on Steam that sells those games and dont bother linking me a youtube video or some news article of someone who complains about it.

I mean an actual store page that has Steam's web address in the URL.

Personally, I don't think any subject should be off limits.  It's not something I would play, but I do not believe those things are going to affect a normal person.  And if there is someone who is so demented that they would do those things in real life, they'll use anything as an excuse as to what triggers them.

You sound like some old christian  pastor who screams "PRAISE THE LORD" 100 times every Sunday as if that actually does anything to begin with.

I dont plan to introduce video games to my kids. Education comes first, second comes work and all that ties down to becoming independent so they can be successful and intelligent enough to make good decisions.

Now they can get into video games or w/e  if they want once they are of age and have their own money from the work they commit to as long as it falls in line with the laws and regulations of whatever nation we live in.

What?! You're actually going to be a parent and not just sit your kid in front of a TV/PC and leave them be?  Shocked.

Just some of my thoughts in bold.

I know I know its just upsetting, I'm all for curation and keeping out crappy games but no matter what the game is about as long as it passes a certain development standard it should be on a store. That's what I want anyway. Guess I'll just stick with Nutaku XD

Same here though occasionally, I'll pick something up and brace for impact.

If its objectively bad you can buy it on Steam.

Either way, Steam is king while other stores are mostly gonna be used for exclusive content.

This is vague, because what exactly is “crap”. Where’s the line? Is there going to be someone who arbitrarily decides if something is crap or not? It’d be one big mess. A lot of things are crap to me.

Lets not turn this into a endless debate. The point has gotten over a lot of people's heads here. Let me make it clear, there is nothing wrong with offering bad games or games you are not interested in. In fact every platform has bad games or games that people aren't interested in, that's not the problem here. The problem here is that while Epic store snatches games from Steam, all Steam is doing is offering nothing worth playing in return.

You know what is worse than a bad game? Is a broken, Unfinished game and offensive games. Sure Offensive games might be excluded to some people that's okay, but what about the majority of mess that gets allowed in, hoping to snatch some poor fellows money on a game that you cannot even finish, leaving bad tastes in peoples mouths. Why do we want broken unfinished games on Steam selling at high prices? I certainty don't. Epic is cleaning up there act while buying exclusivity and Steam is doing what exactly?

In other words, while Epic game customers get to play Outer Worlds on release, Steam owners get to play some unfinished Green Light game. That's my problem with the system atm. There is nothing wrong with quality control, even just a little.
