Late to the party, but this is a good thread,so...
Vic 20 (gen 1 or 2?): Cosmic Cruncher, just happened to be the first game I saw, TV playing games blew my mind. Golf was my favourite.
Commodore 64/gen 2: Moon Patrol - driving around in a crazy armed space tank and blowing up ufos was cool, the side scrolling was neat.
NES / gen 3: Super Mario Bros. Was like the Commodore 64 games I had played on steroids. After trying it out at my cousin’s house I had to have an NES. Honorable mention to Zelda and SMB 3.
Super Nintendo and PC / gen 4: Actraiser - the soundtrack was incredible and the game looked great. It was kind of easy and I eventually traded it in, but the feeling of descending to earth while the music got more and more intense is with me forever. Honorable mentions to Star Fox, Wolfenstein, and CD games with their FMV.
N64, PC and PSX / gen 5: Super Mario 64 - playing this for the first time blew me away, it was the promise of Star Fox fully realized. Honorable mentions to Final Fantasy VII and it’s sweet FMVs, Pilotwings 64, and Unreal Tournament.
GameCube and XBox / gen 6 - uhhh, maybe the sequence in The Wind Waker where Link descends into Hyrule. It was not the most wow gen for me. Honorable mention to Halo
Wii / gen 7 - Wii Sports and Raving Rabbids - played them simultaneously, still enjoy them now. Would like a proper “Wii” Sports sequel on Switch. Honorable mentions to HD twins graphics, no particular game stood out for me.
Wii U / gen 8 - Breath of the Wild: looking out over the edges of the great plateau was mind boggling. Honorable mnetion to Uncharted 4 which looked pretty amazing as my first or second PS4 game.
Switch / gen 9 - nothing specific yet, though like others said, it is cool to play HD games on a portable. Yes, I dare to call this generation 9
