I would suggest playing Halo 3 and Halo 4, best SP to in the series IMO and they are quite different from each other in style. Halo CE is great but can drag on with all the back-tracking.

Hmm, I didn't notice backtracking to be a problem in my limited time with the game, and now I've heard it twice. Perhaps I have different issues with the game compared to other people. Still, it sounds like the later games in the series might be worth giving a try, so maybe I'll do that eventually.
