I appreciate that. I was curious. How much do you think the Switch will beat PS4 by in Feb? Which is still crazy considering both PS4/XBO had 3rd party releases that weren't on Switch.

To be fair the 3rd party games either weren't big games or they underperformed.

Far Cry: New Dawn is a spinoff and the 4th entry on PS4/XBO so the audience already has the system. Based on UK/Japan charts it did only a fraction of Far Cry 5.

Metro: Exodus seems to be doing very well compared to the previous installments but the series wasnt very to begin with so I dont think it's the type of game people buy a console for.

Anthem had potential to be really big and be a system seller but the reception has been underwhelming and the game is underperforming big time.

Also there is the fact that PS4/XBO are in their 6th year and individual titles dont typically give large bumps in sales late in a consoles life.

I don't want anyone to think I'm underestimating the Switch by any means. I have one and I LOVE my Switch.  I know the potential it has already and the big reception it has received all over the world. I say that to say this...I just thought the PS4 would win because of the 3rd party titles regardless of how successful or how much it flopped. All this did was just showed me how much of a powerhouse the Switch is (not talking hardware).

I understand that come Nov. they (PS4/XBO) will be in their 6th year. Time is flying. However, the PS4 has still been selling like hotcakes. I don't find it unbelievable that Switch won Feb. I just thought the PS4 would edge it. I guess I should have taken a look a January with releases like RE2 and KH3. 2 games that the Switch didn't get, yet it still won January.

Again, I don't want anyone thinking my downplaying Switch. That's far from it. I'm just trying to understand the madness and unorthodox trajectory the Switch has taken. Which is a great thing.

There was a topic about a month ago asking whether or not PS4 can achieve 50% market share when all is said and done.
Currently the PS4 is ahead by 20 million (Xbox + Switch).
This week they lead the PS4 by about 100k.
At this specific rate it would take about 3.5 years to make the PS4. And in general PlayStaion consoles have incredible legs.
Therefore, even though it is too early to call, I will bet that the PS4 manages to maintain 50% marketshare over the current competition LTD.
While the Switch obvious has lots of life left, I think the slow xbox one sales will be enough to ensure that the PS4 maintains 50% share.

It all depends on if the Xbox can reach 50 million( or very close).

Looks like Switch will stay slightly ahead until a week hits with big software or exclusives for PS4. Then holidays it should get a couple million in front for the year. If Sony cuts to $199 it would gain a lot before the holidays. Would be smart to do so in September and then bundle with Horizon or something for the holidays.

Price cut in Sept 2019 is the only logical date if you ask me ;)   then a crazy November with TLOU2 Boundle and BF.   December and Christmas at $199 should be great too, much better than 2018.  Sony have in their hands the possibility to beat Switch in 2019 like they did in 2018 with a $199 price cut by 1st of September, unless Nintendo do the same :D

  We will see.

Ya I knew you weren't trying to downplay Switch or anything like that, I'm just trying to explain why those 3rd party titles didnt do much for hardware.

The chances of PS4 winning this year are very slim. Even with a price cut sales will be down YoY, at this stage of a console's life a price cut mostly helps to soften the decline rather than increase sales.

Switch on the other hand is already trending up YoY by quite a bit and its lineup is stacked from June onward so that trend should continue.

PS4 will still sell great this year but Switch should handily beat it by a few million.

Without a price cut at $199, Switch would sell a couple of millions more; with a price cut at $199 by 1st of Sept, and the Last of Us part II in Oct/Nov, I'm not sure Switch will dominate the year, they could be closer than expected.

What do you think about a price cut on 1st Sept ?  I don't think Sony should delay it furthermore, and it would be a good way to enlarge the userbase even more, and to not make a price cut too close to the PS5 release.     Sept is the date that makes more sense for me.

A price cut sometime in Q2 or Q3 makes sense to me but I highly doubt it will be to $199, there really isnt any precedent for such a drastic price cut this late in a consoles life especially since PS4 is still selling very well.

I think $249 is far more realistic and they will continue to save $199 bundles for Black Friday week and maybe the week before Christmas.

For that to happen PS4 would have to outsell Switch by around 50 million lifetime, which seems extremely unlikely.

He's a little angry alchemist. Alt account confirmed, perma ban incoming.

That is true, I made an alt account back in 2016 just so I could end up having an argument with myself at the end of 2018 that leads onto posting a massive wall of text on my alts wall... that I then ignore on my alt! :o It's altception!

Hey now, I didn't ignore you. I just felt like not replying : P
