Forums - Gaming Discussion - THQ Nordic Went to 8Chan -_-

So what was wrong with good ol' Reddit?

Around the Network

Honestly... i dont care, i believe the guy at THQ when he said they didnt knew of 8chan history, after all if they knew about how "controversial" 8chan (apparently is) this idea would have been an obvious PR nightmare, so i really doubt they knew.

And yeah yeah i get it they should have done some research, but the mistake is already done and they already said they regret it and are gonna do their research next time.

If the choice was between 8chan and Resetera then THQ Nordic made the right decision.

LOL, i dont know much about 8chan so im not gonna endorse it, but yeah i would take any other (non controversial) site over resetera.

There's no pedophilia or child porn on 8chan. Racism, though, well, that's probably there. Also, literally everything on 8chan is in the "lele memes" kind of way.

You're probably right. But the Google blacklisting of 8chan + the fact that people I trust have been calling it a place with pedophilia convinced me.

So basically you're saying it's only half as cancerous as I thought. Still cancerous.

It doesn't matter if they knew or not when they exhibit behavior that's just as bad as the reputation of 8chan:

Guess i'm a horrible person because i don't find that offensive... To me it's just a joke.

Seems like they already regret doing this.

It's a joke but it's a bad one ... and it's being endorsed by THQ Nordic. Someone literally told people to cease their faggotry (obviously as a joke) and THQ Nordic responded with "that could be in one of our upcoming games". I get that people don't like reaction culture but this narrative that the PR team just accidentally stumbled upon a site they didn't know anything about is besides the point. Really the point is that they acted like shitheads during the AMA. Which is bad PR, and trying to sidestep that by saying that it's not offensive or is just a joke is dumb. It's still a stupid thing to do for your company.

And you have to admit that compared to what most people consider offensive PR like the Pepsi ad or the Gillete ad ... that comment is WAYYYY more on the nose and can easily be seen as offensive. I mean I think people overreact to most controversies but it's a little disingenuous to act like that comment is no big deal, especially when you're representing a huge company. I don't think you're a shithead for writing that as an anonymous poster on a website, I do think it's a stupid thing to do that can easily cause offense when you're representing a company.

Its a joke... they are not endorsing homophobia by playing along with a joke.

To me nothing and no one is safe from comedy, i dont take jokes seriously nor do i see them as endorsement of anything.

Sure, if you are part of the new generation that seems to get offended by everything.

And no i dont see this as the same as the Gillette ad, THQ didnt made a an AD where they endorsed homophobia or shat all over their customers, they just played along with a joke.

If Gillette would have done the same thing (play along with a joke at the expense of men) i bet you the vast majority of people wouldnt have gave a shit.

You literally highlighted a comment  that says "It's a joke but it's a bad one ... and it's being endorsed by THQ Nordic."

and then replied with

"Its a joke... they are not endorsing homophobia by playing along with a joke."

How did you get "endorsing homophobia" from a comment you literally highlighted that says they're endorsing a bad joke? That's misconstruing to a whole new level. Did you just purposely highlight the second half of it so you could disregard the first part? Lol

I also like how you don't address ... you know ... the entire point? That it's a stupid thing for your company to do? I'm not offended by it - I just find it incredibly stupid and in poor taste.

You're also acting like THQ Nordic's PR team is a well known raunchy comedian. Of course comedy has no boundaries ... good comedy. You don't go to 8chan with an out of touch PR team for comedy.

I said endorsing homophobia because it was a homophobic joke and thats what the problem is, obviously endorsing a joke is not a problem the problem here would be what the joke is about. (hence the good or bad jokes)

YOU replied to ME and MY point was that its just a joke and i dont find it offensive,  thats what my comment was about and it was never about whether this was a smart move or not, you are literally changing the goal post here.

And to clarify, yes i dont think it was a smart move.

EDIT: just to make this more clear you never asked me if i thought it was smart move or not, your initial reply to me was showing me the joke and saying that their behavior was on par with 8chan, to which i just replied by saying that i dont find it that offensive.

I get it that this isnt a normal or smart thing for a company to do, but i dont see this as offensive as you do thats all.

About me "literally changing the goal posts" ... no. The reason I replied to you was to highlight that the problem wasn't whether or not they were self aware about what 8chan was (I didn't even know what it was prior to this either), but their behavior on the board. It's not shifting goal posts, because the point I've been consistently bringing up was that the behavior of the PR spokesperson at the AMA was the issue. Now whether or not that behavior was offensive, I don't know, I'm personally not that offended and that's not the point. Whether the behavior was stupid or "bad" is the point ... and I think it was. So I don't know how it's shifting goal posts, that's what I've brought up in every reply to you since the beginning...

I don't agree with a lot of what you wrote but fair's do, I don't think PR is as important as a companies policies or products anyways so there's no reason to drag on this conversation.
