That's what I thought too, but the article seems to say that he was pretty famous for that, and a LGBT rights advocate. So it's not sure, but definitely possible.
Rappers are shot everyday. If he weren't gay, it would not be on the headlines.
I dream of a day where the sexual identity of a person is a private matter and nobody cares.

Dude, look at the pictures of him. He wasn't just a rapper that happens to be gay, the LGBT stuff was his identity.
It may seem kinda crass, but its fair way to describe this guy. He wasn't your run of the mill rapper, the LGBT likely helped him get attention and continues to do so! Take the gay thing out and its barely a story.

You're right. Most of the stories are highlighting the fact that he was "the first openly gay latin trapper".
