Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4: 150 x Million Seller Games

Per VGChartz estimates- PS4 has now reached 150 x million selling games, including:

  • 7 x 10 million + sellers, including one exclusive in Uncharted 4
  • 25 x 5 milllion + sellers, of which 6 are exclusives:
    • Uncharted 4
    • Spider-Man
    • Last of Us Remastered
    • God Of War
    • Horizon: Zero Dawn
    • Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection

That doesn't even include digital sales- which is crazy! The PS4 is well on it's way to 100 million consoles sold + 1,000,000,000 (that's a billion!) games sold by next holiday season. Here's the complete list of million seller games:

Great numbers...

You may as well consider the average 20-40% digital attach ratio and include all that tracked over 700k as million sellers... plus you can look at 3-4M as 5M sellers, 8M as 10M sellers.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

You summed up just now dominant ps4 is in terms of software.

And very soon there will be 3 more 10m sellers. Bo4, fifa 19 and spiderman. 10 x 10m sellers and counting. Incredible for a season who's software isn't heavily lob sided towards a few titles.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End  8.7 million as of December 21st 2017

Detroit: Become Human over 2 million sold as of Oct 2018

God of War over 5 million as of April 2018

Horizon Zero Dawn 7.8 million as of Feb 2018

Spider-Man
over 9 million as November 25th

Im gonna "assume" that Spiderman + God of War + Uncharted 4 + Horizon Zero Dawn all end up over 10m if they arnt already.

That's because the gaming market has greatly expanded globally. Back then the major markets was just U.S. and Japan but since then Europe has emerged as a major market as well. Mainland Asia is also gaining prominence. From here on out as long as the big three continues to be Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo with no additional major competitors, games will continue to sell even more.

There was once a time when 5 million was a major milestone, and 10 million a rarity that happened maybe once or twice a generation without the benefit of heavy bundling. Only three NES games sold between 5 and 10 million copies (Zelda I, Tetris, and SMB2), and only three (SMB, Duck Hunt, and SMB3) sold over 10 million. Of course, SMB and Duck Hunt were originally bundled with the NES in N. America through most of the system's life, leaving SMB3 as the only game not originally bundled with its system to sell over 10 million copies during the 8-bit era. The only other games in the 20th century to sell over 10 million copies without the benefit of heavily bundling through most of its life were Super Mario 64 and Gran Turismo, and the N64 & PS1 only had 20 other games between the two of them to sell over 5 million copies.

Granted, nearly all games were exclusives in the 80s & 90s, and Europe was largely a non-factor in the 8-bit & 16-bit eras, but still. Even on single platforms, we see multiple games sell over 10 million copies, whereas that milestone was passed by only three games prior to 2000 if we exclude titles that benefited from heavy bundling. Big games have gotten a lot bigger over the past 10-15 years.

Unfortunately a lot of the growth on the 5M and 10M sellers came from the loss of mid-tier and low-tier plus a lot of games that can't be profitable anymore on the sub-100k and 100-500k goals...

Single player is dead, I almost forgot!

Incredible. Don't think anyone could predict the PS4 would do so well pre MS E3 disaster. Even after that very few would have predicted this much success.
