Poor Smash. This was like the worst year to release in.

Anyways amazing award! I really need to finish more games from this year ... this and Shadow of the Colossus are going to be some of my next games to go through.

Pretty sure you already know this but Smash counts for next year awards.

No, it will likely get screwed out of getting anything.  Xenoblade 2 could have easily been nominated for several awards this year, but it didn't happen.  I feel like of a game releases in December, it automatically disqualifies itself bu default which is a shame.

Homeboy says at 1:29: "I've never really liked Kratos as a character." Fair enough....But really, what games was he playing? I've always found him, at the very least, interesting, and at best, totally engaging, and a character who I really wanted to guide to his narrative conclusion. Possibly the greatest anti-hero in gaming history. Passionate in achieving his goals, capable of callous, almost mechanical death-dealing, but plagued by suffering and regret. Plus he banged whoors until ornaments fell off the walls.

The only one I played was the first, and Kratos was such an asshole that I found no reason to root for him.  He was very much an early 2000s character... and it's just not my kind of thing.

Another good win for God of War, congrats to SSM and the team. Hope I get around to playing it soon, once I get a PS4.

Personally I found RDR2 to be overrated (that 97 metacritic is way too high, and IMO Rockstar isnt the king of open world games anymore), so I'm happy another game is running away with it.

Though fuck Polygon. Not giving those dipshits a single click.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I mean, hey, fair enough, and really, the same applies to homeboy. I think I probably reacted that way because of posts I've seen here on VGC over the years, where people go off on what a one note character he is, which I really don't think is true. While I wouldn't date the character of Kratos as evocative of the "early 2000's", again, fair enough. I didn't start the series until May 2010, when I began playing the PS3 remaster of GOW, continuing with 2 and 3, and never had the the original give me a vibe that hearkened back to a particular style that was prevalent at the time it was made. He certainly IS often an asshole though. It's not difficult to imagine a person not liking him for his actions. His more unsavory characteristics only get worse after GOW 1, and I can't deny they didn't bother me a little bit at times.....RIP Gear Girl.

How old were you in the early 2000s?  If you see him out of context, you may not pick up on it, but in context, there were a lot of characters like that in the 90s.  Those poor tortured souls.  Shadow the Hedgehog comes to mind.  Even characters that were previously nice and friendly, the Prince from Prince of Persia or Jak from Jak and Daxter, got an attitude adjustment to fit the mold.

I did indeed post it, but it was GOWTLOZ that recommended it to me earlier in the thread. I liked it so much I watched it twice, and may might watch it again now. :)

I was 25 as of May 2000, and was a comic book reader until 98'. I'm certainly aware of the archetype you're referring to. I remember the ad's for comic stores within the comic books themselves, and one store in particular kept using the phrase "grim and gritty for the 90's" in it's description of multiple books. It was so overused, it briefly became a "thing" my friends and I would say among one ourselves. As for Kratos, I just never picked up on that vibe. To me, and I know this is corny, it felt timeless. Not dated.

It's one of the best gaming videos on Youtube I think ... been a fan of Endless Jess for a long time, though mostly for his more weird niche stuff lol
