Stock issues were solved everywhere outside of Japan by this point last year. Calendar year shipments through September are 2017-7.63m vs 2018-8.00m so basically a wash when factoring in Japan shortages.

Where are you getting 8.00m shipments for 2018? It's at 5m for quarters 1 and 2 if I'm not mistaken. Oh wait, why are you bringing up calendar year and not fiscal year shipments? FY17 and FY18 are neck and neck through two quarters. The main difference being that the Switch has been in ample supply this entire first half of the fiscal year whereas there were humongous supply issues throughout nearly the entire first half of FY17.

I was under the impression we were talking about calendar year since you included Zelda in your previous post.

I literally just told you supply issues were not notable outside of Japan by the end of September.

Doing maths with PS4, I'm starting to believe PS4 will reach 20M sold this year too. PS4 sold around 9M the last 3 months of last year. I expect PS4 selling even more this year, maybe around 10M, according to this site PS4 near 84M at the end of september, so that will put PS4 near 94M total sales lifetime. According to Sony PS4 sold 73'6M by the end of 2017, so that means another 20M selling year for PS4...and everyone is disussing about PS5 being next year.....HA!.

You do realize that the state of sales has zilch to do with when a predecessor launches, right?  Both the PS1 and PS2 sold 20M+ the year before their successors launched.  If Sony can get enough usable chips, and at an affordable price, they will launch in 2019.  If not, they will hold off until 2020.

I know I know, yesterday i was looking for shipments numbers of ps1,ps2 and ps3 so i knew about it. In fact I was #team2019 until the E3 news.I still expect PS5 announced next year, now launching in spring 2020 maybe. But it's funny how people, all of us, myself included have our minds more in the future than in the present. My "HA!" was cynical but in other context.

This was actually one of the best Octobers for any PlayStation console ever.
“October 2018 unit sales of PlayStation 4 reached the highest mark for any PlayStation hardware platform in an October month since the PlayStation 2 in October 2002,” said Piscatella.

PS4 just refuses to stop.

Just when they think it's about to slow down, it powers up!

RDR2 would have definitely helped both Sony and Microsoft. Spiderman I guess is also playing its part.

Switch had Mario Odyssey last October, which is going to sell more than something like Mario Party. You would probably want a bit better result in October, but given there was no Mario Odyssey this year, it is what it is.

Switch is simply more reliant on its software calendar (similar to the N64), Nintendo can't get sloppy with that, the gap between Odyessy and Pokemon Lets Go (a year basically) is too large between large releases, that can't happen again.

Prediction tool:
1 - NS : 1.0
2 - PS4 : 0.26
3 - XBO : 0.24

*edit:
1 - NS : 1.0
2 - XBO :  0.78
3 - PS4 : 0.66

What actually happend:
1 - PS4: 1.34
2 - Switch: 1
3 - Xbox One: 0.83

This month the prediction tools where waaaaaay off the mark.

also this:

PS4 might take november too.

I don't think switch with Pokémon will loose November. If it does, then the switch has a problem. Switch should be king even though black Friday helps the other 2 much more

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

The power that the PS4 has

Switch and Xbone did well too.

Call of Duty is just unstoppable

Red Dead 2 sold over 3m units in one week.
Which probably also means that BO4 sold also over 3m in October, probably even over 4 m.

Sony's forecast was always a joke to me. I know many took it as gospel and a sign the ps4 is dommed to decline to irrelevance but I always maintained a yearly prediction of 18m+.  We'll find out soon how much higher it goes.

Playstation 4 is the new beast, and I think it's well deserved, considering how many interesting and quality titles have come out since 2017

New beast? Did it replace the old beast of PS4 2017 or something lol :p

PS4 just can't stop breaking records. Highest October ever and at €299. WOW.

Look at those October PS4 sales. Declining gradually from 2014 to 2017. Look at this data one would probably conclude last year on the assumption PS4 would be still €299 and pro €399 that we would see further decline. Instead it smashes it out of the water. PS4 will end up going so far over 100m I think most people even grasp the reality yet.

Top 10 best selling games so far this year

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4**
  2. Red Dead Redemption II
  3. Far Cry 5
  4. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  5. NBA 2K19
  6. God of War 2018
  7. Monster Hunter: World
  8. Madden NFL 19**
  9. Grand Theft Auto V
  10. Call of Duty: WWII**
All top 10 best selling games of the year are on PS4 and likely sold the majority on that platform.
