Forums - Gaming - What do you think of RDR2 so far? (for those who are playing it)

I'm still very early on, in chapter two. I've spent a lot of time exploring and hunting. But so far it's amazing and I've read it only gets better.

These games and the Fallout series really just obliterate what other developers try to do with open world games imho.

That's true.  I know it's offtopic, but when you mentioned Fallout, I couldn't resist : I can't wait for Fallout5, really !

Getting RDR2 in a week or two.

Those were taken on SDR 1080p with no HDR.  Your the first whose commented on them being too bright and they are compared to the originals but they got deleted once I made the gifs.   Personally I think the brightness looks right on my temporary TV especially when the photos seems to fall in line with other gamers brightness setting.  I use Imgur to make my gifs and although this sounds strange sometimes Imgur seems temperamental as results tend to vary depending on the in-game terrain setting I guess. I also try gifycat but Imgur is my goto most of the time.

That looks like the correct black level. I have that problem with you tube as well sometimes where it messes up the black. Gif also compresses the hell out if it as well as you tube, often adding color banding that's not there in the original. This gen video tech clearly lags behind what consoles can produce. It wasn't that long ago that videos made games look better than they actually were. How fast things progress!

I 'wasted' hours again recording a couple days of timelapse footage overlooking Valentine. I figured out how to avoid the auto rest messing up the view, stand right on the edge of a cliff to prevens it. You still have to whistle your horse every 2 minutes to avoid cinematic view taking over. In other words, I've been cleaning up and doing other stuff while pressing up on the d-pad every 90 seconds lol.

So far it seems weather patterns are linked to areas. Twin Rocks is most stable with always the same type of weather, while Valentine has chance of slight rain and fog. Flat Iron lake seems to have the possibility of the biggest storms. That's the only place I remember seeing lightning. The bayou is mostly foggy which can drift into saint denis.

Weather is very realistic, only thing is the transitions can be quite odd when sped up. It's definitely the most impressive weather engine yet.

What the fuck is up with this game's item sorting? Hair tonic is in the kit menu and I've literally been wondering for like hours how to use a hair tonic because every tonic, even the ones that don't affect your health/stamina/dead eye is in the tonic menue EXCEPT the hair tonic. And watches are in the "kit" section even though they're just valuables that you don't use. Like what ...

At 60-ish % now, game is truly amazing, but the bounty system is truly amazingly fucked up!

As far as narration goes, this is Rockstars strongest title so far, I'm taking missions not only for rewards and progression, but out of a genuine desire to see how the characters develop and relate to me and my antics. Fantastic writing and incredible voice-acting. In a class of its own along with Naughty Dog productions.

Still no Blackwater in sight, however I have just entered chapter 4 finally. I got into the story last night, mainly due to cooking up some canabutter and testing the product before cooling it back down into butter. The mission design is definitely made for playing while high, go to the next yellow dot, take out red dots, repeat. Keeps you focused, impossible to get lost, and the story has a lot more impact. The writing is pretty good over all when you look past the silly game play in between.

So back down to earth today, all the annoyances are still there. Why does he always get off at the wrong side of his horse, like every time. The game keeps randomly changing my loadout in missions or I'm dumped in a mission with just a vulcanic pistol and can't access my horse. When to loot is the big question. A lot of the missions have you either run off at the end or simply cut away to another place leaving all those valuables behind. So while my gang is shooting, I'm frantically looting. Got to be quick or restart checkpoint.

I agree with the inventory, can never find what I need so I mostly ignore it. The damn butcher also never seems to be available in camp so I always get "can't harvest all of the animal" warnings. I still donate to camp yet camp funds are nearly $1000 now with nothing left to upgrade. I have over $3000 myself and all the better guns are still locked. I'm mainly working on restoring my honor from my earlier train robberies and witness extinction program. It's slow, the bar is just over halfway, yet I suspect it will determine something banal as the good or bad ending.

I've hunted some more legendary animals as well. Not sure if I'll have the patience to go after the legendary fish but the animals are fun to hunt. If only that cougar (from a mission) had been in VR! The legendaries are glitchy, kill them quick before they drown or get stuck somewhere. I'm using the rolling block rifle with express ammo, most powerful I've got so far. Also you can't take shortcuts, you have to start at the first clue. Reloading to try again, it's the exact same, yet you can't go straight to the last clue.

Is there any point to the challenges? The horseman / gambler / weapons expert etc?

Btw, some of the writing is very mature, never thought R* would be up to that. The overarching theme of change and people not being able or not willing to change with the times is very well executed throughout everything in the game.

How the heck do you change ammo types? Lmao I can't figure it out ...

When you have L1 pressed to select a weapon, hold the right stick to have the weapon selected then use the d-pad to select the ammo.

I didn't know until yesterday I had a lantern lol. For all the tutorials it's pretty late in explaining some of the basics.

What the fuck ... I SWEAR I've done that exact thing (I figured it out because of the arrows on the side of the bullet types) and it didn't let me! ... What the heck ...
