Lots of juicy details at the link above but basically he's not happy they're focusing on wireless mobile VR instead of dedicated PC VR.

The market is viable put they are probably only interested in massive returns. Makes sense they chose mobile over pc.
They wanna launch the oasis as the first company and that won't work with dedicated pc sets. Although you could bring that experience it won't be used by many people if you need strong desktop hardware as well.

Guess that leaves Vive as the go to headset in the future for dedicated PC VR.
"A Facebook spokesperson tells TechCrunch that PC VR is part of the company’s future product roadmap and that much of what Iribe’s team has been working on will be manifested in future products".
"While Facebook did not deny our report that the “Rift 2” being developed under Iribe’s PC VR team had been canceled, the company reiterated to us in a comment that they are continuing to invest in PC."
Yeah I'm not buying that PR speak. Either they invest in dedicated VR headsets for PC or they get off that train and let someone else cater to that market. Trying to pull "all in one" type strats for mobile/stand-alone and PC isn't going to win all 3 markets in one fell swoop. If anything it actually puts me right off VR from their end with that watered down focus.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
I can't blame either party, here. Facebook caters to as wide an audience as possible so will of course focus on mobile VR while Brendan and co. got into this with visions for high fidelity desktop VR but couldn't pass up the truckloads of money FB offered.

Are you saying high end VR isn't mainstream?
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
How can FB cancel the future like that?
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
