Forums - Sales - GTA4 advertising : for which console ?

I don't think people should expect Microsoft to advertise their DLC exclusivity because they probably can't!

Has anyone seen an advertisement for a multi platform game which only mentions it's on one console?

Yes, Burnout Paradise in the UK was advertised by for PS3, 360 ads for it were far and few between if any. Posters said PS3, the TV ads were PS3. I can't remember any 360 ads for it. There have been many moer cases.

Not seen any ads myself in the UK other then shops advertising it. HMV oddly seem to always use the 360 box around the front cover and never the PS3. Infact last poster I saw in their window they only ever mentioned the 360 version, I think I might complain to fair trading standards.

Hmm, pie.

DLC will be used at Xmas :

Bundle arcade + GTA4 FINAL (game + 2 add-on) for 199$ ...

nice offer

It will be too late by Xmas. To distinguish it from the PS3 version MS should advertise DC now regardless of when it's released.

==> because u assume the "15M GTA fans" will buy GTA4 right now the 29th april ???

many will wait until the usual time to buy a console : Xmas (thx daddy)

so, I believe, MS could RErelease their game for xmas including the DLC in a new package "game of the year edition" or maybe a bundle with the arcade (to sell to people who lack of money)

No. I don't assume that 15 million GTA fans will pick up the game on the 29 April, clearly, that would be a logistical impossiblity. You can't deny though that a significant number will be getting it shortly after release, let alone before Xmas.

My point is that even though the DC content won't be due for release for a while yet, Microsoft should be advertising the DC content now, so consumers will opt for the 360 version over the PS3 version now rather than later. There will definitely be those who, not being aware of the 360 DC, will then go on to purchase a brand new PS3 along with GTA4 instead.

These are R* own ads, so there will obviously not be any mention of content exclusive to one platform.

It is likely you will see ads funded by MS or Sony in the future though.

Just though id add -- 360's excluisve DLC shouldn't be advertised yet ...

its like - BUY GTAIV, WAIT 6 months then PAY $20 ! FOR EXCLUISIVE DLC... WAIT ANOTHER 6 months AND BUY MORE EXCLUSIVE DLC FOR A MERE $20 ...

vs. -- BUY GTAIV FOR ON PS3/XBOX 360 -- ...

The second option looks much more appealing to me ... it simply tells me i should own the game -- once the consumer buys the game THEN oyu try to make them buy the DLC ... which again is so far off we don't have any clue what it is except that it will *proberly* cost $15 - $20 ...

** Though i do believe the suggested GTA4 + DLC + 360 bundle is an encellent idea for M$ ... or a GTA4 + DLC ( called GoTY Edition ) ...

SO what exactly is the DLC for?  If it is not to help people choose the 360 version then what is its purpose?  Is it simply just a way to broing in $$?  If so then will they recoup the 50 mil they advanced to R*?

Mil. Sellers:

Wii:      25 titles       101.4 mil total    avg 4 mil per title

PS3:     14 titles      28.6 mil total    avg ~2 mil per title

360:     41 titles      89.8 mil total   avg  >2 mil per title

6 month try 3 month for the first DLC....

now about TV ads the only one I have seen are the one from gamestop....

and about MS advertising the DLC I think the problem is from rockstar not reveling much to advertise with...

but anyway I think we'll start to see commercial if any at the end of this week and next week....

never start an ad campaign too early it's useless....people not aware of DLC are probably not aware of the release date anyway... the target of an ad campaign is to sell it doesn't matter if it's on release day or the week after... so starting too early before the actual date of release is more a waste of money than anything... look at movies they don't advertise that much before the release date... with a game like GTA you don't need a tone of ad to realize you want the game or not anyway

If anything the PS3 version is getting more advertisement- it has both the classic "PS" logo and the "PlayStation 3" logo. I wonder why they did that?

If you were to go by the ads only, you would have believed Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 were PS3-exclusive, and Madden 08 XB360 exclusive.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

check every single game that is advertised on a ps console. the ads will always contain the ps family logo alongside the relevant ps console that the game is appearing on. it's been going on for ages. so this means nothing.
