Looked at the Metacritic scores of the first two games.

Valkyria Chronicles 1 has an 86 on PS3.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 has an 83 on PSP.

Personally I loved the first game, while I found the second game to be disappointing. The second game kept putting lots of missions on the same few maps which I didn't like. I want a new map for every mission. The first game is near flawless in my opinion. It is one of my favorite games of all time.

I haven't tried the demo yet. I hope that 4 is just as good as the first one.

I have the deluxe Man-Boy Edition edition ordered and on the way. Planning on moving this one way up ahead in the queue. Maybe even playing it this year.

Metacritic varies wildly right now on a per platform basis. So I chose to go with Opencritic. It's not like the game is going to run significantly better on any one platform. It's a Sega game, and they are using the same engine as the PS3 original.

It's 84 for Switch and 86 for PS4. A bit variation for sure, but wildly? dunno about that ;P

 

Happy to see it has turned out well! Got the demo downloaded.. just havnt had the time to play it yet...

When I made the thread it was 81 on Switch, only one review on PC, and 86 on PS4.

No, but it would be nice since the stories run parallel to each other. Since the first one is pretty cheap, and nearly identical to VC4, you could buy it first to gauge your interest.

I can guarantee you that 1 is a great game.  I haven't played 4 yet, so it remains to be seen.
