"it's almost certainly not just they didn't want to cast a white girl for that one role.  There will be some sense to it."

>One would hope. Seems pretty messed to do such a thing arbitrarily...

Which is why they deserve the benefit of the doubt rather than such vehement vitriol.

They obviously will not make her a person of color and the rest of her family all white and provide no explanation whatsoever for it in the show.

I think Ciri was going to be an orphan.

Good news guys:

Seems like they're specifically looking for a Polish actress for Ciri, which is great.

Shikamaru, are you familiar with the source material for The Witcher? The books I mean? I assume that's what Netflix is going off of, not the games...

Because you already seem the show and the rest of the cast right? Since they haven't decide which ethnicity for Ciri and all.

That's oddly specific IMO.

Wouldn't it be very funny if all the screaming about "SJW destroying my favourite stories" was based on a fake?

The last few years on the internet really changed my perception of hell and purgatory. It's probably a place where you can only communicate and express yourself through social media, with thousands of trolls intentionally misunderstanding each of your posts and spreading erroneous rumors about you.

It would more likely be seen as "Netflix had to back down because of the fans and was forced to listen to them".

It's almost impossible to prove that the leak was a fake, especially since Netflix refused to comment it. The "No comment" made it look real.

The plot thickens!. Let's hope they do right by the fans of the Witcher.

I think Young Ciri is the only Ciri in this season. The series will supposedly start when Ciri is a young teenager. The first casting call said they were looking for 15 or 16 year old actress who looked young enough that she could pass for 13/14. So I think this means they changed their minds and are looking for a white Ciri now, either that or the first casting call leak was inaccurate to begin with.

Must be the second since we were told companies when you complain never go back, they get stubborn and push even more.

Talk about missing the point.

Yes, totally makes sense when now rumor is updated for them to be looking for a white girl and the fact that you can't put any certainty as you did before the fact.

In a way it makes sense though, Witcher is a big deal for Poland, it's the most successful franchise created in Poland. Maybe the author even requested they look for a Polish actress.

Well if they want to make all in english it will be a tad more difficult... but I would appreciate if they made the whole original sound of the series on the language it was supposed to be on the original.

Even if that were the case, Lauren would be to blame. If the first casting call leak was fake, she could have shot it down and extinguished the fires of controversy quite quickly, but instead she chose to say that she wouldn't comment on casting rumors. And if she had signed an NDA preventing her from commenting on casting rumors, then Netflix was to blame for not shooting down the rumor themselves.

Companies rarely comment on rumor (since that is also a way to fish for information.

I don't know, that sounds like victim blaming. Maybe both rumors are true and they padling back or the second rumor isn't true and ciri is going to be bame, maybe they don't give a shit about angry internet nerds or they used it as free publicity. We just don't know.

A bunch of people lost their shit about a rumor nobody knew if it was true or not. Why not just wait and see until we have something concrete like an official press release.
For example:
"Netflix hires Colin Kaepernick to play Ciri in their upcoming Witcher TV-series
the director says: "Colin is a perfect fit for the role. When he kneels, he's exactly as tall as Ciri is in the first book.""

If we waited and the "BAME" rumor had been true, it would have been to late to convince them to change it, once a "BAME" Ciri had been cast they couldn't have gotten away with recasting without angering the opposite camp. It truly is a screwed up, overly political world we live in

Why do we have to convince them? If the production team is unable to find the right actors for their main characters they are unable to produce a good series.

Look, I also think casting a black or asian looking girl to play Ciri is a bad idea but it's better to just let them do their work and judge it after its finished. Either they cast a bame girl for Ciri and it's a complete miscast and the series is shitty or they cast a bame girl for Ciri and the series is great, then kudos to them and the actress for convincing me.
