As far as shear number of quality games nintendo wins handily.

That and the top 3 highest rated games of all time are nintendo games with OoT leading the pack.

Popcap Games is a better developer than Nintendo because they both make casual games? You can argue that Popcap Games makes better casual games than Nintendo (which, imo, they don't), but to say they're better developers than the company that made Zelda, Mario and Metroid takes some serious bias.

And CaptianTwig is a serious person... wait a minute.

EA tends to invoke in me images of Big Brother. Every once in a while, they toss you a nice meal (SKATE, Army of Two), but they're pretty much just becoming more and more powerful while choking the video game world.

OT: While it's true Nintendo is not the greatest developer of every single genre, they are unequivocally untouchable in platformers and adventure games, and they do in fact make some of the highest-quality racers, RPGs, sports games, action games, and party games. Other developers who specialize in these genres may debatably do them better, but none of them can touch the overall quality of Nintendo in all those genres.

Not to mention the sheer fun factor. When I play Mario, more than any other game, I don't feel stressed or on edge at all! No other game series has the ability to hone in so much on the sheer FUN that is supposed to typify a 'game'.

Based on what at least semi objective criteria?

The highest rated games are made by Nintendo... and computer games are counted in said ratings. They also make a wider variety of games ranked higher then someone like Valve.

Indy developers just haven't made enough games to be considered "Best" nor do they even have any games that top Mario Galaxy in critical acclaim.

Your just being blinded by the fact that you don't enjoy the Wii. If you look at it from any objective or semi objective criteria Nintendo wins.

You've yet to point out any criteria other then... "I disagree and some people i know disagree too."

If this was an arugement based on what people liked best i'd go with Atlus, Banpresto, Firaxis, or Will Wright.

plus does it freaking matter because since everyone's taste in games are different, everyone's views will be different. Minus the overall fact that Bejeweled outsold every game on the planet. Peggle is better too...

have you ever been to an indie games convention or festival though? there is so many innovative games out there that are truly amazing. Why dont you actually go to one before you start questioning indie devs greatness. Its indie devs that brought flOw to the PS3, All the Go! games, and many others.

 This is also an opinion.   Stating preferences as fact=/=truth no matter how much an individual may believe it from their stand point.  Even in large numbers, the individual cannot prove a preference.

That's the difference. This isn't a case of pure opinion.

That would be "who is your favorite company".

Greatest needs something more then just personal opinion. It needs some sort of at least semi-objective criteria.

People need to look outside of their own narrowly defined boxes created by their own prefrences in gaming and look at the criteria objectivly.

If you can't bring any objective critieria you may as well be argueing that Phil Mickleson is better then Tiger Woods.
