Nintendo has told Eurogamer that claims a new DS model will be unveiled at E3 this year are "purely rumour and speculation".

Word spread after Enterbrain boss Hirokazu Hamamura said he thought there was a "possibility" of Nintendo producing a fresh iteration of the handheld at the event. Enterbrain publishes Famitsu magazine.

And the evidence stops there.

The Nintendo DS originally appeared here in March 2005, before the much prettier DS Lite was released in June 2006.

The handheld has gone on to sell over 65 million units around the world.

I still think ones in the works. Its just a question of when not if. A DS redesign would help increase its sales in Japan. Its not needed as much everywhere else.

I told people that it was too soon, even if there is a completely finished design already, they still aren't going to unveil it while the DS and Wii are selling like ~~hotcakes~~ something that sells really fast

The real question is what "Flaw" do you fix in the design of the Nintendo DS that will encourage new (and existing) DS owners to choose the new model ...

Quite true... of course Nintendo is going to say that this is just rumor and speculation right now.... if they came out and said "yeah we do have a redesigned DS in the works" then people would just wait for that to come out, thus greatly decreasing existing DS sales and no company would want that.

I'm looking forward to the redesign myself since i still have a DS Phat and dont feel like shelling out another $130 for just a brighter screen. If the new design has some sort of video out, then count me in!

They are working on a new 'protable gaming device' however it wont be announced at E3, what will be announced their is strictly software, the claim has no foundation.

Take it with the same size grain of salt you would take after reading a Patcher analysis.
