Forums - Nintendo - Is No More Heroes really that short?

Twilight Princess took me a week. Metroid Prime 3 took me about 8 days. Mario Galaxy took me roughly a week to collect all the stars with Mario and I still haven't gotten around to getting all the stars the second time through, but I did get to the point of beating bowser for the second time.

No More Heroes took me 2 days. Technically, it took me a 3rd day to actually BEAT the last assassin, as well as beating the "REAL ending" challenge, but that was only because I was tired and couldn't figure out how to break through teh guard of the final assassin. I had actually gotten that far, but i kept getting my butt kicked. ultimately though, I could have "beaten" the game in all of 2 days.

On top of that, within the 4th day I had already played through the ENTIRE game AGAIN. I used this play through to make sure I had gotten all teh training I could from the Master, all the weapons and parts I could from Naomi, and all the clothes I could buy from Area 51(and I'm only missing maybe 20 or so out of the bunch you have to find out of trash cans), as well as getting gold rank on every single job and every single assassination mission. Both of these were done under the "mild" difficulty setting, not the "sweet" setting.

Currently I've taken a break from the game, but I've beaten the first assassin under the "bitter" difficulty setting so that I could save my file there. Once I beat it on bitter difficulty and find all the Tshirts, I'm going to start a completely new game on the bitter mode so that I have to work my way up through the wrestling moves and beam katana models on the harder difficulty, instead of starting out with the best weapons and stuff from the beginning.

Is it just me that has crunched through the game this fast? Or has everyone else noticed this as well? I'm definitely not bashing the game, quite frankly, I love it. It's like someone took GTA, Trigun, Kill Bill, and Star Wars and mixed it together by shaking rapidly.

Surprisingly, despite its short game duration, I find the replay value to be quite high. Is there some super special secret that I unlock when I beat it on bitter difficulty? It feels like there should be one, but also like there won't be one. Also, does anyone else have far too much fun creating different outfits for him to wear? And what's with the phone? It has an option to check it, but I've NEVER heard any messages being left on it or anything. Why do they have the option to access is in game when you only have messages during cutscenes?

yeah totally agree on both points it is very short and it has a high replay value - it's the first ever game when as soon as I completed it I started again on a higher skill level.

Thats stopped now i've got Wii Pro Evo and Mario Kart to keep me occupied.

its about 15 hours of gameplay, maybe shorter depending on the player

but the fun boss battles will make you want to play it over again

im playing it over again(4th time already) to play the boss battles

"not so long, not so short", 15h is a good gampelay time.

for example, for me, a game over 20-25h is hard to play because my time for play is max 1-2h per day... after a month a game could be boring.

Caccaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :P

@ 11ht11 - true. The one thing that really sets this game apart from all other games is just how utterly DIFFERENT all the boss fights are, despite all generally having the same strategy of block, dodge and smack the crap out of them when you can.

heck a few of the bosses you never actually FOUGHT. I was like "hey, wait, what? ... wait, seriously? that was it? ... huh..." Despite this, Assassin rank #3 was my favorite to get, just because of how much it mixed things up.

I have to admit though, I would like to have a hidden option that would let you actually fight those characters, like Helter Skelter, that were killed during a cutscene instead of you actually being able to fight them. (there are either 3 or 4 characters depending on what guidelines you use)

^ yeah i was pissed when i didnt get to fight him, holly summers is my favorite boss, i lose on purpose to fight her over and over

but i guess the "real ending" boss makes up for Helter Skelter

I wish the bosses stories would have been fleshed out a little more. Other than that, it's a great game, length not withstanding. Most original experience this gen.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I personally enjoyed Shinobu, she was my first time dying. I absolutely despised Bad Girl though, and I still can't figure out entirely why. I think it was either the gimps she kept batting during the fight or it might have ben the auto kill she was able to pull off.

Eventually, I'm sure I'm going to get tired of it. It's weird, but like the first couple fights you can't tell what the hell is going on when you're in a boss fight, but once you get that pattern down, there's just no way to ignore it and it's gonna become so rote. Still, it really is the storyline that keeps you churning through it. That and getting to dress Travis up in the Bizarre Jelly outfit XD

No it is REALLY short. I'd of felt somewhat ripped off if it wasn't supporting a small company and had a lot of great fun.

Replay value does seem real high, and i'll play through it until i unlock everything i bet... my friend and girlfirend also are planning to play through it at least once... so i'll get my money's worth out of it yet i'll imagine.

I beat it in under 10 hours... Like... between 8 and 9 if i remember right.

Though I saddly missed one of the wrestling mask cards which is just embarising considering how linear the game is.

I just picked up Killer 7.  Hope it's story is just as crazy... but i'll wait to play that.

I liked that it was short because I rented it, but I could see the appeal of replaying it on the hardest difficulty. I did beat the first boss over again just to try it out with all the best upgrades I got from the first play-through.

To me, this game is the best rental for the Wii if you want to replay Galaxy with Luigi (because that would take longer than NMH). Keep in mind, though, that I try to only buy mulltiplayer games (mostly offline with some online exceptions) since those are longer lasting.
