Wouldn't Disney want to completely re-write the script so they don't have to give Gunn credit? They might keep the songs but I feel like they're going to start the script from scratch to avoid any association with Gunn.

If they do, they might have me on the brink of boycotting it.

That said, I doubt they would completely rewrite it. It's just too much work and takes too long when they can just use something that's already finished and is likely good. Plus, many of the GotG cast are showing their support for James Gunn as a director and as a person, I think it'd be disrespectful to them too to have their characters' final chapter be rewritten from nowhere. I do think they will make changes just so they can say it's not Gunn's script, but I doubt they'd do it all from scratch.

I'm also a little unsure on how much Disney really wants to disassociate with him. I think it's obvious they couldn't have possibly hired him without knowing about this, and I find it hard to believe that they took the decision to fire him overnight considering he was probably the second most important person in the MCU after Feige. That, along with Gunn's "I'm okay with it" reaction, makes me think maybe they always had a deal where if the shit he posted in the past was too exposed, he'd get fired, because obviously Disney's PR would have a hard time keeping him... and if that's the case, I'd assume the people at Disney still respect him.

But honestly, whatever. I'm sick of Disney at this point. I thought they were gonna keep their hands off Marvel, but apparently those days are over... I'm expecting them to go full Star Wars soon. Nothing good can last forever, I guess.

I was thinking that too, a lot of fans of the series are not going to support a film which is cut to pieces and just flung onto the screens simply to make that bi-annual Marvel movie happen, and considering that Disney actually managed to lose money on a Star Wars film I really don't think they'll brush off talk of a possible boycott of a billion dollar film because of this blow out. I mean... sure they have their morale high ground to maintain... but Guardians 1+2 took in a combined 1.6billion dollars in box office alone, never mind deals with streaming services like Netflix, Bluray/DVD, OST, toy sales. the total of which for Disney is likely to be well over the 2b mark so far... are their morales worth shooting a billion dollars in the back? It will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

Very very very unlikely, the whole 3 films were all meant to lead to the 3rd one, between Quill forming the guardians as his foster family, finding his real father only to be let down by what he discovers and now the 3rd is meant to be about him and Gamora, if the 3rd film is chucked out and replaced with "villain of the week has to be stopped by the guardians" it will be very noticeable and likely reward the MCU with a fairly low rated movie which will seem very out of place.

but couldn’t someone different  write a new script that still adheres to and follows on from the storylines set up in the previous films? I know it would still most probably suck, but bigwigs don’t care about stuff like that... In a way It’d defeat the purpose of Disney publicly dissociating themselves from Gunn if they were then gonna go and release a movie with his name in the credits anyway. Might as well have kept him on (personally I hope they do use his script and get a decent director to take over....the guardians were handled well in infinity war so there is hope)...

I might just skip Guardians 3. I planned to quit watching any of the MCU movies after Avengers 4 because it just got too convoluted. I was only considering watching new Spider-Man and Guardians movies since they didn't feel soulless. My biggest concern with this franchise was that one of the directors would get fired and would be replaced be a studio yes-man that would create bland and generic movies like Ant-Man and Thor 1/2. This whole controversy has left a really bad taste in my mouth and I'm really scared that Marvel's gonna get lazy and hire a mediocre director that's gonna make a subpar 3rd movie. I'll wait and see... but the Guardians movies were some of my favorite in the franchise and it's sad to see Disney getting rid of creative talent. I guess new Spider-Man movies are all I have left to look forward to. I'm honestly more intrigued by DC's future slate of movies at this point.

Well those tweets are fucking sick and I don't think any sane person would wrote stuff like that.

Can't believe this clown was married to Pam Beesly.

Something else worth thinking about too, there are fairly heavy rumours going about that Mrs Kennedy has been removed from her position over Star Wars but Disney aren't going to publically just fire her but instead have a stepping down ceremony before the next film comes out, so with that in mind... Disney are okay to have someones name on a project while that person isn't actually there, is the inverse of that situation also possible for the public?

Yeah, they were handled well, but all their dialogue in IW was written by Gunn. He even picked the music that played when they went to GOTG scenes. And for the sake of being thorough he was also an executive producer on IW.

Makes no sense considering he deleted apologised so not like Disney didn't know

He was hired in a different time.

But I don't find his humor innocent.

1. They weren't funny.
2. The sheer amount of them
3. I keep hearing decade ago, when I see some tweets were only 5 years ago
4. His age. I hear people say, do you want to be held accountable for something you posted 10 years ago when you were say 10 or 17 or something young. Gunn is like 53 years old. That means his most recent tweet was when he was 47 years old. Not a teenager, but freaking 47 years old.
5. He is a Hollywood director. If any Hollywood director is found to be a pedophile or something, I would NEVER be shocked. It's amazing how horrible some of them are. Hell, Hollywood still celebrates convicted pedophiles and let them still work.

To me his posts scream a super homophobic guy who we later find out is gay. The fascination he had with child rape jokes, really makes you think he either has done that/does it, or has a secret desire to do so.

Look at the post above you. I googled the guys name and rick and morty and there was only ONE article about it. That was from Breitbart. Where is the rest of the press? Hell even this James Gunn story got like relatively low media coverage, and nearly half of it in defense of him. The holllywood/media always seems to shelter or look the other way when it's related to pedophilia. I feel it's like the whole Winestein situation. Where "everyone" knew. I found that funny when it came out. I had no idea on who he was, but was not surprised in one bit hearing all I heard. Felt like that was what we all knew was going on in Hollywood. Yet who is all surprised and outraged? The media and Hollywood actors, the very people that you know damn well knew of it first hand.

You guys act like 2012 was a time when we just started the internet...
That was 6 years ago. That is more or less one generation of consoles!

Of course he has to be accountable for this.
Disney did the right thing and this guy is just an idiot.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
