Regarding Sony's push into mobile gaming, its worth noting they hired the former boss of Apple Arcade last year.

I fail to remind any noteworthy title Apple themselves released.

That's what I was just thinking lol. The best thing that has come out of Apple Arcade though is the way they handle games on the service. All the games on the service have no advertisements, in-app purchases, data tracking, or always-on DRM. So whatever games you play can be played offline and without any interruptions.

So that's probably what will really differentiate Sony's mobile games from others. Although I'm expecting games to be independently priced rather than part of a subscription only model, but that we'll have to wait and see.

It's hard to say if it means anything by itself, but I wouldn't dismiss it.

Apple doesn't have any game development, but they do work on third party content curation. Which is still valuable and still something Sony/Microsoft have to do.

He was at Apple for quite a long time, and probably has some better insight into what kinds of games tend to be popular on mobile.

Replying to both since it will be the same point.

I can see it being a good person to help their portfolio and strategy, was just talking on direct generated content =p as I don't think he will help much on that. For the service itself perhaps it will.

Yeah that is something else entirely lol. It's not like Nixxes porting an already existing game to PC. The mobile games would most likely be original but with existing IPs. Not to mention what would the gameplay be like. I'm not familiar with Savage Game Studios work so far, especially since they've only been around for 2 years, so it is something that I'll be very cautious about.

Cheers for this, still need to get back into the swing of things with announcements and stuff lol :P (I also need to update things in the OP but /effort!)

I had no idea what Toem was beforehand but it actually looks really cute and fun, something I'd be interested in playing for sure! I've also almost bought Granblue Fantasy Versus multiple times in the past because it looks great and I've been wanting a new fighting game to play so that's a no brainer. Not the biggest Need For Speed fan (Unless they remake the Underground games!) but I hear Heat is decent so meh...

As for the Extra/Premium stuff there's not too much for me this month, although there was a time when I was interested in Watch Dogs 2 so I can give that a try now if I want lol, I've also heard great things about Xenoverse 2 so I'll be considering that in the future (Although I did just buy Kakarot on sale, so maybe that'll be enough for me) and Spiritfarer (Which I didn't see on the list until I just started typing) is one of those games I feel could be great to just kick back and relax with, also has a nice art style and I like the music I've heard too. Also yay, Syphon Filter 2 now!

Overall I'd say it's a pretty solid month, plenty of variety to be honest, and I'm sure everyone will find something they're happy with!

This month is quite weak, but last month was superb.

Was Hogwarts Legacy confirmed to have microtransactions?

hmm , yeah. The PSN page has had this since it was launched: it's the very first bullet.

I'm pretty sure that 'in-app purchases' also means DLC, since that is content you have to pay for, and not MTX in the sense I think you're thinking.

You would think that, but having used Steam for well over a decade and being very familiar with how every aspect of Steam operates, I know that DLC is not considered an in-app purchase on Steam since DLC's have their own individual Steam pages believe it or not. Which is kind of pointless if you ask me lol. But if you look at any other Steam page for a game that has purchasable DLC, in-app purchases is never listed, since DLC is its own individual purchase from Steam itself, not "in-app". Only games with traditional premium currency for MTX is always listed as having in-app purchases like what's shown in the screenshot. So I wouldn't be surprised if we get MTX in the traditional sense for Hogwarts Legacy. Wouldn't be the first time WB Games has done that either.

Unless this is a mistake and will be updated. Which I hope it will be.

Yeah.. that's a good point. Very strange.

Maybe there is MTX then haha. Guess we'll have to wait and see. :D

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm going to boycott the game if this does end up being the case lol. Still one of my most anticipated games! It's just always seems like a weird decision to include MTX in single player games.

Then again, with WB Discovery freaking axing everything, WB Games probably thinking they need to get as much money as possible lest their projects start getting axed

I won't be buying TLOU Remake for quite some time, but damn, seeing it in action is mind blowing. I don't think its a stretch to say its the best looking game released this generation so far.

Nowadays for me any game that doesn't outright say it doesn't have MTX I consider it have.

Almost beating Demon Souls, level 87 and only missing the final boss. It took me only 21 hours, this is probably less than half of what I needed for Dark Souls

I was expecting it to be a bit longer, I got underwhelmed realizing x-3 maps were basically only boss fights

Overall awesome game, really, probably the best I've played this year. I think I enjoyed boss design more here than in any Dark Souls, which have good bosses but I feel 80% of them is just about memorizing patterns and acting fast without needing to understand arena layout or how the bosses works. I actually like some of bosses are about only using arena inbyour favor.

Overall the magic build made everything easier than I'm used to, magic is extremely overpowered here some bosses were trivialize once I understood what to do with them. I guess I have beaten at least half of them without dying one single time, this is satisfying as Demon Souls layout put you very far from archstones with few exceptions

I've also found fighting with sorceres much more fun than with knights, I'm satisfied to finally getting a magic build working after many frustrated tries in DS lol

Level design is much better in DS though. It has much more clever maps with more things to discover and explore. I remember besting it and running to play it again only to see what I missed. Here... not quite really, I'm satisfied for now, I will try other game only for the please of testing another build. Dark Souls plays more like a 3D Metroidvania, while here the structure is much more linear (1-2 and 3-1 are the only maps that I can remember using items from later maps to unlock secrets)

Hopefully FromSoftware won't stop making Souls like games with tight design, I will miss them if they only go to open worlds like Elden Ring :/

Trying to decide what game I'll beat next, maybe FF 7 remake again or Crash 4
