Forums - Gaming Discussion - Star Ocean 4...which system(s) do you think the game will be released on?

I think that the game will be coming out on the ps3 and because of how well the wii has done in japan, they may make it for that console aswell, but if they do, do that then i think it will be a timed exclusive for the ps3.

Again has the engine for this game been mentioned or confirmed at all, because if its for the pse they are probably using the crystal engine

Didn't Se confirm crystal engine for wii too. If so then that even more validates multiplat wii or ps3.

how do you find out all of this information, do you just do research and stumble across it. Well if this game does come to the wii i will be expecting to see huge sales. But isnt this engine enhanced especially for the ps3

We just remember where we run across certain stories, on sites we frequent, and search through the archives.

And the Kotaku link says the PS3 was just where development started, not that it was optimized for it.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

releasing Star Ocean 4 on the ps3 and wii, which is a less power full system, would not be a good idea. They have different control schemes for one thing.

In that case, they might as well put it on the 360 as well, since the last game sold well in America, and it wouldn't cost much to port it from the PS3.

The Crystal Engine is also on the 360 and PC...; The Wii one is different from the PS3/360/PC one due to architecture and the Wii one is still being made. That doesn't validate anything at all.

If any game(s) will use the Wii Crystal Engine it will be KH3 and the Wii Mana title.

No I'm just saying that the engine could be used for the game if it was released for both Wii , and Ps3. I don't understand what you mean by architecture? Please Explain. If you mean it is coded differently to support the architecture of the wii then you should say the same for the 360 , and PC.

The problem I see with this is that the PS3 sucks in japan and is soso in the US (distant 3rd)... that is where JRPGs release the most.... even if SE wanted to turn PS3 into the RPG console, it is very risky right now. People have the Wii and will buy more for sure, it's easy money and guaranteed on the largest userbase in both NA and JP. (even if PS3 becomes 1st in others eventually, RPGs are just not good sellers there due to the massive translation needed, so it's not a factor).

Also I just had fun watching the cutscenes... if that's PS3 it's gonna look berk next to FFXIII.... especialy the characters in the ships and at the end scene, they look more like PS2 cutscenes than FFXIII

My bet is that even if this was started on PS3, it is a Wii game. (didn't MH3 do that too?)

Yeah, but why suddenly make two versions?

And by architecture I mean power. The Wii's power isn't the same as the PS3/360/PC power so they have to make a new Crystal Tools engine for it to be Wii compatible.

The ps3,pc,and 360 versions do have some things the wii doesn't, and at a higher quality, but that doesn't mean that the engine can't be used to port games. IF a game was made on the for the Wii first, they would just add the extra features, and then enhance the features already in the wii version of the game for the ps3,360,or pc.

I agree with you. Either that or the game will come out on one of the consoles first( Most likely ps3) ,and after not selling too well, ported to another console( Most likely wii.)

PS2 and PS3 owners are more willing to play JRPGs than Xbox 360 users.  There is indeed an audience for JRPGs on the 360 which is pretty much what Lost Odyssey proved.  Star Ocean 3 sold well in America for the same reason Lost Odyssey has been selling well in America, which would be 2 things:

1)both games were really hyped

2)they were both decently advertised(which is unheard of for the "Tales of" series with the exeption of "Tales of Symphonia") in America
