You get smash for the core gamers and a casual Pokemon game for the casuals. I'm definitely going with yes. As of now, Sony doesn't even have a truly big exclusive scheduled for Q4.

What was the big exclusive for Q4 last year for Sony that caused them to easily win the holiday (Nov-Dec) sales?

People forget the PS3's 2 biggest years were 2010 and 2011. That's equivalent to PS4's 2017 and 2018. So those saying PS4 is selling well for a 4.5 year old console forget that it's actually in it's prime years. I realise not every console cycle is the same, but so far the trend for PS4 has very much mirrored the PS3 in the latter years, except on a much bigger scale of course.

The main difference being that the PS3 needed a hefty price cut to have its best years, correct? It's not that the PS4 selling well for a 4-5 year old console is surprising, it's the fact that it's selling well while still $299.99 whereas it's main competition has frequent price-cuts of $70-100 lower and yet it can still sell as well as it has.

Idk if its like this nationwide but the 500gb PS4 has been $269.99 all year at the retailers near me.

Sony has kind of strayed away from releasing their big 1st party games during the holidays for the most part this generation.

Super Smash Bros and Pokemon Let's Go are going to have Switch consoles flying off the shelves. and then the fact that Metroid Prime 4 will likely launch this year along with the new Fire Emblem will just boost sales even further. AND we havent even seen any of the E3 reveals yet

I don't see Metroid Prime 4 releasing this year.

If they release Smash, Pokemon, Metroid and Fire Emblem this year, what's left for next year? The other Pokemon?

They don't have that much big games, they can't launch everything competing with each other on the same period and then do nothing for months (like MS...). Metroid, if ready, should release in early 2019.

There's 2D Mario and Animal Crossing that could flesh out 2019.

True!

I still think they should try to put their releases on the entire year. We saw on April what it does when another console has a big game but the Switch has nothing to compete.... Consoles sell with games, and should sell all year long, not just for Christmas. Sony got that, MS still doesn't get it, not entirely sure about Nintendo yet.

I would say PS4 edge it out but I go with Switch because it is more interesting.

Saturation is a bitch and we see it already having an effect in Japan technically in Japan the switch could be +1 million more sales wise than PS4. Switch seems to have some interesting stuff releasing for it and probably more announced soon and last year it's black friday deals were kind of weak but this year I expect them to be like 50$ more cheap and get a game with it.

I don't really care who wins in the end and they probably will do well.

Ya Prime 4 definitely isnt coming this year but they still have a bunch of big IP that can be used in the next few years.
