Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo now selling Switch systems without a dock in Japan

I wish this (with an AC adapter) was just an option at launch, would definitely have picked it instead. I've used the dock like five times total since launch.

Another proof that this system is escentially a portable. Something very hard to debate.

I don't think this will do much tbh. Its only 45 bucks cheaper.

Nintendo fanbase hate to see the facts, actually. Only bells and whistles.

Or you know, could be a home console with detached parts that make it portable.
At the end of day this discussion is still a huge pile of nothing and Switch is still the only system that offers both ways to play out from the box.

You don't need the AC adapter, just a USB-C cable, I already have several around the house.

you wont get optimal charge with samsung s8 charger, it will take a long time to charge  and wont charge while in use. actually the price savings is 45$ cheaper in japan, i would much rather the original charger, joy con grip, hdmi and  dock, for 45$, but if you're that cheap ok ...

It's actually impressive how much faster the original AC adapter charged it. tbh $45 saved even without the AC adapter is a total rip-off when you not only lose the ability to play on the TV, but don't even have a dock to house it in for storage while charging.

I hate being right all the time.

Big slap in the face to those who swore black and blue and argued with me that Nintendo wouldn't make additional variants of the Switch that looses/gains features as it would erode their "hybrid" design.

Now, hurry up with the Switch TV that ditches all the extra junk, Nintendo.

I don't consider a wise saving... but since we know people have no much issue paying 60 USD for a game, but complain about 500 console because it is 100 more than a lot weaker HW I can understand why Nintendo would do it, but I sincerely don't understand why people would buy it to save the money of a single game on something they will use for more than 5 years.

Several people (me included) expected that they would in near future have 3 products, HH, console and Hybrid as Switch family as to offer cheaper or more powerful alternatives to og Switch.

But congrats for holding your ground.

That's nice for Japan since they seem to like to play only on handhelds. Personally I woud never buy a Switch without the dock because that defeats the purpose of the whole concept of the Switch.

I always hold my ground if I believe something to be true or history dictates a high degree of chance for it happening. :P

And I actually think it's a good thing that Nintendo can potentially make so many variants of the Switch to appeal to different markets and demographics.

I thought that if it happened, it would be even cheaper, around 20.000 yen.
