Keep in mind that Pokemon has NEVER switched platforms mid-gen. Whenever they debut on a new platform, they always start a brand-new generation.

Pokemon has done a lot of things they never used to do lately. I wouldn't hold on to that logic especially in the face of all the evidence suggesting otherwise.
