Well i am still playing with the widgets. Might be a way I can make them coincide with game collections and other cool stuff - although the idea would be to tempt you to buy something you don't already own

Just playing at this stage with the whole thing.

What if an "I ownthis console" Button was added, and amazon ads would only show games/assesories for the console you own. That way, the iteams displayed would usually have something you would be able to purchase...

...Although, It would suck if it only advertised the big hit titles that you may already own...

How many of you use Amazon anyway?

I use Amazon. And I check it every day just to see what the VG Deal Of The Day is!

BAM! There it is!

Another aspect to this is that we can track every game, piece of hardware or peripheral bought on amazon via VG Chartz - if the sample size becomes large enough then we are essentially starting to collect our own "vgchartz" weekly sales data (vgchartz becomes a retailer of sorts - or at least a subset of Amazon) which, if representitive, could give us a good estimate for Amazon sales as a chain or even online sales as a sector - which will only increase the accuracy of our data further and give us more information to work with. Of course this is a long way off and we'd need to grow a lot more as a site and be pushing far more users and sales through to really get a representitive sample, but there is potential.

Just one of many great advantages to doing things in this way...

Wow that would be amazing. If anything, it would be interesting to see what people bought in a certain month (especially Nov/Dec), whether or not it was large enough to be a representative sample. Just for kicks basically.

@TheSource, I use Amazon.com for just about everything. Books especially, since they are SOO much cheaper than just about everywhere (plus free shipping and no taxes). Games are usually the same price, but without taxes (and with free shipping of course), the price can be 2 or 3 bucks cheaper, so it can add up. The prices really are competitive. So I'll make sure I start using this for everything I do buy.

Not that I doubt your statistical prowess (its at least 10 orders of magnitude higher than mine), but if VGC forumgoers (or any clique that is similar) are statistically representative, I would be very surprised.  People tend to follow the herd, so to speak, and so I would assume a game that a community feels really strongly about (cough, Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes) will be waaaay overrepresented in our purchases compared to overall.

If i'm wrong about that, well, all the more power to your statistical skills

As a side note, I really enjoy the 'game search' on the sidebar.  Kudos for that.

well i buy games from amazon from time to time. i'll be sure to use vgchartz as a reference if it helps the site out. xD

I use Amazon for hard to find stuff (metal CDs), and for their cheap Blu-Ray prices. For games I mostly shop in-store, though. Either the game is still sold in stores, or it's so hard to find I have to go to ebay. I rarely use Amazon for games.

Things would definitely be slanted towards hardcore gamers.

What was the point of editing my post. Not everyone likes to have 100 different ads on each page they look at. I can't even go to this site on my PS3 because of all the pop-ups and other ads, they cause the PS3 to crash and freeze.
