That Street Fighter V story is a crock, it was a straight money hat. You think SF, one of the most lucrative franchises Capcom has, wasn't going to get a new entry in a relatively timely manner? They were just hoping to use that line to dodge the PR fallout. And the funds didn't help finish it, it just motivated them to launch it unfinished. The DR thing wouldn't be a big deal if it was an MS co-owned IP and not a multiplat one that Capcom just auctions off to the highest bidder whenever they want to pad their bank account. MHW situation would be somewhat understandable if Capcom hadn't been *massive* dicks and delayed the localization of XX and even denied it was coming over purely to shine a spotlight on World to the detriment of a large consumerbase. I get it, the Switch's success caught them with their trousers down, somewhat understandable if a bit embarrassing given their success on 3DS. But to deliberately delay the launch of XX in the west so that they can keep a spotlight on World, thus shafting an entire consumer base in the process. That's just a massive dick move. Imagine if it were the other way round, and they refused to localize World so they could hype up XX and gave the entire western audience on PS the finger. And as for World not running on Switch, having played it in person, I have my doubts. It depends on the efficiency and scalability of the engine, but I think it could absolutely deliver a satisfactory experience. Capcom just can't be assed. |
So you think Capcom for couple years were saying they didn't had the money, Ono talked several times about it, just so when Sony decided to pay they would have an excuse? Makes 0 sense. They would launch a SF V at one point in time, no doubt, still they had low budget available so they wouldn't work on SF for a lot of time.
I have no problem with Capcom auctioning their games to the highest bidder, since first I don't care about the game, second there are plenty of games to choose and third it's their IP and they may decide how to better earn money with it. I prefer they do exclusive deals than just go and put a lot of money grabbing tactics inside the game.
If you can't understand why they would want a game that sold so well as MHW to have the spotlight for hype to generate you just want to have blind hate. And funny enough, people in VGC complain all the time about announcing games to early, but here you wanted that.
May I see your credentials to say a game that run at 30fps and not even 1080p on X1 could be ported just this easy for Switch? Capcom couldn't be arsed to axe a lot of the game just to release a port for Switch to then have people complaining about how poor it runs.

Street Fighter IV and its many iterations have sold around 9 million physical copies according VGC. I very much doubt they did not have the funds or intentions on doing a sequel. Mind you I am in the camp that believes even Sony got shafted with SF V, considering they paid for it and Capcom under-delivered (well I mean the core mechanics and game were solid, but it was missing a lot of content at the beginning). |
If you want to say they were lying for over 2 years just so they could get money-hatted by Sony without people hating Sony then ok that is conspiracy theory level of shaping reality. Sure Capcom had "money" to develop and interest to make a sequel, but both weren't priorities and from what Ono and Capcom have said some times before the reveal SF V weren't to be released any time soon.
Without Sony paying for the game to be released it would take a lot longer (perhaps the released game would be better) to release. Companies sometimes make decisions that may seem odd. Like all the trouble MGS5 got and Kojima being fired because Konami thought the game costed to much and they were looking more to pachinko.
