Forums - Gaming - SS of choice: Super Metroid or Symphony Of The Night?

Do I really need to answer this one... heh heh

Super Metroid

I'll go with Super Metroid

SOTN is still my favorite Metrovania, but it has nothing on Super Metroid - one of the greatest games ever made.

Super Metroid. Symphony of the Night stood a chance, until I heard the voice acting.

 I hear ya.

i was shocked too, as SOTN is a game with top notch production values other-wise

the voice acting really ranged from bad to abysmal, and there were some pretty generic dialogues spoken.

but it felt a bit funny, relieved the tension a bit in an otherwise intense game

Super Metroid.

SotN is nowhere near the best Castlevania in my opinion.

Dawn of Sorrow > Aria of Sorrow > Circle of the Moon > Symphony of the Night.

I loved metroid fusion but vagabond7 is right, unlike SM where you had to basically explore and figured out what to do on your own mostly, fusion was an incredibly linear game that held your hand throughout most of it.  Great game none-the-less, but Super Metroid is by far and away the best Metroid title, with the original Prime not too far off in second place.

As for Symphony of the Night, im playing it on XBLA right now and loving every minute of it, though it is pretty tough i must say.  Im currently at around 120% complete in the reverse castle, and it's definitely a masterpiece as ive been hearing for years, best use of my virtual dollars yet.

I really can't say which I think is better, yes SOTN owes alot to SM but they are both great in their own way.  Actually I may get flamed for this but I played through the lastest in the series Portrait of Ruin last year on the DS and thats my fav Castlevania game right now, even if it is basically a redux of SOTN albeit alot more expansive with more levels and powerups.  But yea, if i was left with either SM or SOTN as the only game i could play on an island, i cant say i'd complain.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Metroid Fusion > Super Metroid
Metroid is pretty much my favorite series but...
Symphony of the Night is unparalelled. Not just by other sidescrollers. From a purely gameplay perspective (ignoring story/characterization/etc, focusing on graphics/gameplay/audio), it might just be the greatest game ever

I agree, every single time I'm left wondering what MY favourite game or games would be, SOTN is always one of the first games I think of.

Ok I did my part, I bought No More Heroes, but they were out of Zach and Wiki.

Ok got Zach and Wiki, now if I could just finally finish Twilight Princess so I can play all these Wii games I got waiting. And no I won't buy Okami.

DNF, now there is a game that should have been scrapped completely. Reminds me of a kid whose been in school for 12 years and still doesn't know what he wants to do. At one point you just need to man up and get a job.

I played SotN for the first time tonight, for about an hour. Long enough to defeat the first boss and encounter Maria. Fun as hell, looking forward to the rest of the game. :)

Super Metroid. Better than all the rest for me.
