Some of you really should take time to think about your complaints the online was inconsistent because it was free features like servers and all cost money to maintain PSN was just as bad if not worse when it first started out and was free, the whole point of the subscription is to improve the service for the future. Cloud saving is also not free on PS4.

Well then I had the cloud saving one wrong.

Still, I'm not confident Nintendo is going to meaningfully improve the online multiplayer, at least not when it comes to current games. I do hope that would be the case, but they seem so uncommitted to making any improvements (remember Splatoon 2's tick rate being actually decreased and all), I simply can't expect them to.

People have have always voiced their uncertainty on Nintendo adopting and integrating new trends yet they've always done so just fine the's nothing here that you can make the conclusion they're uncommitted as no current service started out with all the features they have now as they had to crawl before they walked even when Live was taking off PSN didn't offer the same features straight away because it had to get the structure up and running first.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone say they wanted Nintendo to have a Netflix-like subscription service. Like, seriously, ever.

How have you never heard that? Ive heard it like 100 times on these forums.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I want to add something that slip under the radar. The french version of the nintendo online services web page say that the cloud backup will NOT be available for all games, only compatible ones. I think nintendo will put a file size cap on this service, and that games will really big game save files, like NBA 2K18 that have a 5 gb per game save file, will not be able to cloud save their files...

I hope close to Sep we have a thread to share the sub between 8 players.

That's not what it means.

A Switch console can have up to eight different users. If someone purchases the $20 subscription, only the user who paid the subscription can access online multiplayer and the rest of the features, including the NES games. If someone purchases the $35 subscription, then all users who are registered on the one specific Switch console can access everything. So regardless of the chosen subscription, it's tied to a single Switch console.

Actually you are mistaken on this topic.

This was taken from the FAQ section:

How do I create a family group?

Starting May 15, 2018, it will be possible to create a Nintendo Account Family Group via your Nintendo Account settings. Up to eight Nintendo Accounts (including child accounts) can be linked as a family group.

We still need to see how this family group can be created and/or managed, but in theory up to 8 different Nintendo accounts can be linked to this group. And since it was specified in another FAQ that one single user can own several Switch systems and the memebership is tied to the account itself, and not the system, Nintendo cant differenciate between actual family members that use only one Switch system but have 8 different user accounts(and thus Nintendo accounts), or just a group of friends that have 8 different Switch systems(and thus 8 different Nintendo accounts) and shares one single family group.

Edit:Im adding a link here because the formating of the FAQ part is messed up.You can check by yourself there:

https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/faq/

And here is the another FAQ that says you can have the membership acess across multiple systems if you have the account that was used to buy that said membership:

If I own multiple Nintendo Switch systems, will I need a separate membership for each one?

No. Nintendo Switch Online can be used on any device by signing in with the Nintendo Account that purchased the membership.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

My daughter plays Splatoon 2 on my Switch a lot. I guess I'll have to get it for her profile but this means I'm not even gonna have the online service on my Switch even though I own it, I'm the main profile, I bought the game, AND I'm paying for the service.

Groovy.

I'm assuming everyone single person that is complaining about the extra $15 for 8 accounts does not pay for online on their Xbox or PS4 right now.

I am complaining and I do pay for Xbox Live and sometimes, PS+.

Nintendo's online (unless there's some huge improvement) isn't even on par with Xbox Live on the original Xbox in 2002. On my Xbox One, a billion people can play online with my one account on my primary XBO. I get to KEEP 24 Xbox 360 games forever after I download them. Cloud saves are unlimited and free! There's a lot of other stuff that I'm leaving out as well.

I don't even want the service or the 33 year old games. I'll be getting the service for my daughter. Nintendo is doing it wrong, though. Still my favorite company and the Switch is still my most played console right now but this does not look promising.

I’ll pay for this if they have the games I’m looking for, but my concern is they won’t. One of the major reasons I wanted a Switch was to be able to play SM Galaxy 1 and 2, maybe a couple Zeldas, and a few other older games. If they don’t have these available soon on the only Nintendo console I own, it’s going to get pretty frustrating.

I can't fathom the outrage about this. Online servers are expensive to maintain, and if you want quality online support outside of the game's launch window, it's best to include a minor cost for online.

But beside that, it's drastically cheaper than the competition's versions, plus it comes with potentially superior additions compared to the add-ons that the competitors throw in.

Furthermore, literally nothing they revealed is actually *news* here except for the family plan. Everything else they said is basically just clarification on things we've already known for ages. Where was the outrage six months to a year ago when this stuff was first revealed?

I think this would calm down as it gets closer to release date. Like look at the PS4. No one is complaining about the PSN. If they want better free games then expect Nintendo to increase the Price.

Pocky Lover Boy!

I'll be buying the family plan for my son and I but I'll still be using Discord.

Not sure about price value here. PS+ is 60€ but you do get recent PS4 games, discounts and special themes. NOS doesn't seem to be generous. Basically it's "insert coin if you want to keep playing Splatoon 2".

Also, save backup shouldn't be paid-only. On PS4 (and even before on PS3 and PSP), we can save the save data via USB, regardless if we pay for cloud saving. Protecting saves should be a fundamental right.
