http://psnow.es/juegos/ps3-destroza-espectativas-en-australia/ The console was at 27K in the first days after launch . The data for end april was 37K or 36.5K .... Right now the console must be at least in 45K . Well ,I think I remembered the numbers wrong ....it was Germany wich was 70K+ at end april (only germany ,not the conglomerate with Austria and Swizterland some make sometimes for sales information ) .In any case what I am saying is clear .....no way the PS3 has only sold 80K in all the territories toghether in two months . Just add ;800K +27 K=827K . Current vgchartz number=910K . So we have to believe it has sold only 87K consoles in two months ?And that having in count we had weekly data for the UK for some weeks that pointed to 16K weekly and Germany data about 16K april and the australian data about 8-9K per month ?That would leave the sales for all the other european countries and new zealand equal to zero .Plus in this time between the console has been released in Russia ,Middle Orient ,Arab Emirates etc ....maybe not big markets but that the releases alone would mean for thousands of sales at least in Russia . I have a growing sensation this site is biased against the PS3 .Things like that the NA data wednesday wasnt charged in the frontpage only for the PS3 and that its data for the PS3 in Japan is lower than media create one (when Media create only accounts japan and this page reportedly unites japan and other asian markets ) only adds to that impression .

Since apparently you didn't notice, I'll ask again - other than Sony, who claimed that the PS3 sold 800K consoles in the European launch?
This was quite clear ,the PS3 sold 600K units the first 3 days and for the 7 days remaining of the month its sales dropped some 75% .So the rest of the month it sold 25% of 600,thats about 150K more and that assuming sales stumbled in the same way in all the other regions as in the ones we had data as UK ,something totally unclear .Howard Stringer gave the 800K data ,he isnt someone who would lie directly to the media .In any case what I am saying is clear ....for the rare confirmed numbers we have (germany in april ,Spain software numbers ,the UK numbers in some leaked data from special days as when Nintendo sold more ) we see always the PS3 selling double the X360 .Yet this site is assuming they are even or even the X360 outselling the PS3 ,where do they take their data because the few data we have shows exactly the contrary with the PS3 doubling X360 sales or about 40% better in the worst scenarios.

So your answer is that noone else other than Sony backed that number, that's the important thing to note here...

Sony said 800k, but it could of been anywhere from 750k - 800k, which Sony would of just rounded up.

Companies will always use the best looking number, and will round up when ever possible.

Look at microsoft and their shipped numbers. If they would shipped 10.5 instead of 10.4 they would of announced 11 million shipped.

It's not technically lying, its just rounding.

No ,my answer is that if yourself added the additional data for the countries (i.e some 25K more for Spain second week ,some 37K more from UK )you arrived yourself to the about 800K number .And my other answer point that the few data we have confirmed shows PS3 nearly doubling the X360 sales everywhere ,so this kind of data put here about the X360 nearly outselling the PS3 is devoid of any credibility .

So you're basing the 800k number on the 600k plus a few news reports. Now the question is, where does the 600k one come from? ...

Great to have all this stuff up. I'm taking these numbers with a grain of salt, as this is the first time I've seen weekly European numbers, and they clearly aren't easy to find. Still extremely impressive, and the accuracy can only get better with time. Interesting to note how the DS is the first console ever, as far as I can tell, to have sold more in Europe than the US, and our PSP numbers are going to be greater as well in a few weeks if this rate keeps up. Looks like handhelds are all the rage at the moment. Suppose this also means I'm untrendy for having one computer, three consoles, and zero handhelds. =P

Diomedes, do you seriously think ioi is purposely fudging the numbers? I mean, seriously. Cause if you do, why are you still wasting your time around here? And if you don't, your accusation that the site is biased are baseless.

Now, it is totaly possible the site's sources aren't enough to provide accurate data. The question is, can you do better? If yes, please do help the site by providing more accurate data, citing sources and all. I'm sure ioi would apreciate that, and make the adjustments he sees fit. Beyond that, tough luck really.

I'm sure you're aware that criticism of the "Pleeeeease, nobody would believe that" kind does nothing to help.

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Also, I wanna add this. I hope you've noticed that the site includes weekly historical data broken down by country, almost. If you wanna know how ioi got to the current numbers, short of asking for retailers addresses and phone numbers, this your best aid.

For instance, you state the PS3 sold 800k by March 31, right? If you have a look to the week ending April 1, you'll see according to VGChartz it only sold ~660k, and that those 800k were reached some 20days later. Constructive criticism would be contrasting your claim of 800k (citing your sources) with the specific data on this site.

As another example, you speak of Australia's number at the end of April being 37k, and cite a source for that. That's fine, but you should have had a look at VGChartz' number, because apparently, VGChartz' overestimated that by 2k - it's over 39k for Australia by April 29.

Assembling this data is a lot of hard work in the first place. I'm glad you want to scrutinize it, but if you want to do it in a meaningful way, you better put some time into that too.

Don't pay so much attention to Diomedes. He's a Sony fan... You can check that on almost every Spanish gaming forum.

When Sony sells one million consoles in either Europe or Japan, I  bet they'll make a press release. That's why, even without taking into account the data of this website, I assume they haven't reached that number yet in Europe.

On topic, great job ioi. :)

Diomedes, care to cite sources in Austrailia that the PS3 is at 70k? Last time I checked it was half that.

It was reported only about 2 weeks ago, that the PS3 had an install base of 36k units.

(the Wii had approx 80k, and the 360 120-150k).

There is absolutely, ZERO percent chance, that the PS3 has sold more than 50k in Australia (as of today). This is the quiet time of the year for consoles (holidays all over, etc..). You can also check the latest Australian charts (for a few weeks running), basically no PS3 titles in there.

Great job ioi! it's fantastic to have hardware sales for ALL territories finally. Can we also expect european software sales in the next weeks or months or shouldn't we expect that?

Are this Germany numbers only Germany or are Switzerland and Austria also included? (The three countries are often counted together.)

About the accuracy: We have seen with the NA weekly numbers that ioi is doing his best to get as close as possible and that he gets very close. I think this numbers are already quite accurate and in a couple of weeks, when ioi has some experience, they will be very accurate. Oh and about Diomedes, never mind him, he states every week that numbers are not accurate just because they are not in his favour.

And something about the numbers themselves: I think we can see that europe is sonyland because of the psp numbers, they are very good. europe is also wii's slowest market because it's the only place where the psp is able to outsell it on a weekly base, and that the ds sells more in europe than in NA shows that the slower wii performance is not due to the size of the market. I conclude that IF a PS3 catchup is possible somewhere, it is in europe.
