PS4 didnt had system seller games in 2015.!? Now I saw everything. :)

PS4 didn't have system sellers in 2015 on the level of Pokemon + Smash. Yet alone a system seller breaking software records like Smash. We have historical precedent of a console (X360) outselling another console (PS3) entire year with just November + December sales. It's not impossible.

PS4 also isn't a hybrid, drawing sales from two demographics, and has direct competition in the home console space with the XOne and to an extent PC's. On top of all of that, it had the higher price (even with temporary discounts). However, this can also be accredited to Nintendo for taking a risk and succeeding.

Nintendo predicted 20 FY. Many Nintendo fans on this site expected 2 Million+ NPD for December.

Obviously great Switch numbers. It just isn't outselling the PS4 launch aligned. Which speaks to what a beast the PS4 is!

Maybe PS4 didnt had one huge system seller game like Smash, but had much more system seller games in any case, combined lineup of games like Dying Light, Bloodborne, Battlefield: Hardline, Mortal Kombat X, Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Madden, Destiny: Taken King, Need For Speed, Uncharted CollectionMetal Gear Solid V, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Fallout 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Star Wars: Battlefront, Rainbow Six: Seige...destroys hole 2018. Switch lineup (including Smash Bros + Pokemon).

Point that PS4 is not hybrid dont change nothing, we were talking about lineups.

Point that people (not only fans) expected 2m+ in December dont change nothing, Switch selling around 200k+ less that change nothing.

Actually it is, Switch is outselling PS4 launch aligned, and that shows how strong beast Switch also is, because PS4 had incredible strong sales and it will be 2nd best selling home console of all time, and Switch have stronger sales in same time period.

I dint get how these are in any way bad numbers. Compared to wii u + 3DS (two consoles!!!) it's dine fantastic. Compared to the PS4 it's also done fantastic. Even if they only hit 19 million at the end of the FY that's fantastic.

I literally don't see how it's not fantastic.

That doesn't include PS4's second holiday season.

The majority of games you listed are multi - plat and only had a limited time bundle (Batman + MGS). Some of these games also had a XOne limited time bundle. Again, nothing compared to Smash + Pokemon, Switch being cheaper, and being a hybrid. Many factors have to be considered when comparing two different devices.

Excellent Switch performance. 2019 could be even better.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

So PS4 beats Switch, expected as much.

I think the switch Numbers are ok. Because when you compare with the 3ds+wi u its almost the same, but if we compare with the Wii era....well. the same goes for PS4 with the PS3 and the PS2 era.

Comparing anything to the Wii era is setting up for failure, Nintendo sold over 250 million units of hardware between Wii & DS, that is a feat that had never been remotely close to happening before that and will never happen again.

NES+Game & Watch, SNES+Gameboy, N64+GB Color, Gamecube+GBA, Wii U+3DS each did 85-115 million and Switch is on pace to do similar numbers.

The Wii + DS combo was a complete monster. The PS3 + 360 + PSP numbers combined were close to matching the Wii + DS combo but still fell short.

For the Switch, 17 million in a year (or fiscal year) is nothing to scoff at. The install base will continue growing as games continue being developed and released. No, the Switch is not the Wii, but it doesn't have to in order to be considered successful.

Honestly I think it could reach Wii levels, it wont have as high of peaks but if handled correctly it could have longer legs.

If you align like with like, then the PS4's 2014+2015 period should be compared to the Switch's 2017+2018, in which case you get:

NSW: 10.5M
PS4: 10.43M

The Switch wins by a relatively minuscule ~0.7%, due entirely to its first Q4.

Although the difference is rather miniscule, the 2013 PS4 launch inevitably took sales away from PS4's 2014 quarter. It did after all have some stock problems in Jan 2014.

Here's an update to the chart I posted earlier in the thread:

The Switch fell just short of what the PS4 sold in 2015, like, less than 2% difference. But 2015 was the PS4's peak year in the U.S., and the Switch still has plenty of potential for growth. The PS4 sold 5.1M in 2016, and I think the Switch will beat that this year by a considerable margin.

If I see that correctly, then Q4 2017 eats up all he PS4 winnings  in the other quarters combined

But you wrote "Switch It just isn't outselling the PS4 launch aligned", and that's not true, because it does outselling PS4. But even if we compare just first two hole years on market, for Switch 2017. and 2018. while for PS4 2014. and 2015., Switch is again above.

NSW: 10.5M
PS4: 10.43M

You do realise that multiplatform games are system sellers for PS4, right? 9 from top 10 selling PS4 games are all multi platform games, in comparison to Switch top 10 best selling games are all exclusive Nintendo games. Hole PS4 2015. lineup was far stronger for PS4 than it was 2018. for Switch, I mean Switch had 2 strong games while PS4 had 10 of them. Limited bundle don't change nothing, we talking about lineup of games, not about bundles. We were taking about lineup of games, not about what is hybrid and what is cheaper, but yeah you are right that there different factors to considered when comparing them, for instance Switch is cheaper but PS4 is much stronger, has much bigger HDD, has BD support, much stronger 3rd party support, had price cut in 2015. and better BF deals...so don't act like everything goes in favour of Switch because thats far from true.
