That doesn't really sound like a port tbh.

It doesn't indeed.

And also the logo is different from the previous ones.

Also I think the only games where Nintendo has not announced the official title are new instalments the wouldn't be any need for that for a port so it's looking like a new title possibly built on the same engine like what XBC2 was.

Sure if they immediately started on the new game, but they made dlc up until 2016. That's most likely why despite it having been the normal timeframe of 3 years between Mario Karts, we got MK8D instead of MK9. They might still be able to frame it as a sequel though if there's enough new content, but expect it to be clearly using Smash Wii U as a base, much like Splatoon 2 uses the original.

Splatoon had DLC didn't stop them making a new game, DLC doesn't mean the whole studio is working on it.

It's safe to say Smash wont be using the free update strategy a.k.a. releasing the game while it's still being developed, thus my Mario Kart example is the better comparison. Of course not the whole studio, but it obviously means the game is gonna take longer to make without the aforementioned shortcuts.

Sakurai tweeted: "While we haven't gotten to the point where we can announce the game's title, I've been working on the title in silence day after day. Please look forward to new information and when the title goes on sale!!"

Great to hear. I assumed it was new. That is not a way you introduce a port/deluxe. That was new game trailer.

Considering it looks like BOTW Link, and Nintendo showed us a shiny new logo, I think it's a new game:

Add onto that the above quote from Sakura on Twitter, as well as teh bottom right saying "new game by hal" when trailer ends.

Because this doesn't look just like only WiiU/3DS version of Smash Bros, and because not everyone had 3DS and especially Wii U.

Not everyone, but it’s still a big install base anyway (like 85m). The game is also the best selling of the series. I hope it’s new btw.

Well you can bet that this Smash Bros will be huge and very popular in any case.

They already have a game engine so why is 4 years too short? XBC2 reused an engine and made new assets for a new game in 3 with half the team.

I know those were not in-game assets, but the art-style and general vibe look different from Smash 4.

If they don't tweak the mechanics and use an updated version of the Smash 4 engine I could see it being a new game. Really what it needs is single-player story like Subspace emissary.

A straight port with just some new characters and skins would be really underwhelming, especially since the Wii U version already ran at 1080P and 60FPS, so there isn't any room to upgrade the performance like Mario Kart 8 had.

I think Mario's model in the teaser is from Odyssey by the looks of it.

Well, I was on the "no way this is a new game" bandwagon, but I think everything seems to point out to a new Smash game.

its bad I'm more excited about future guest character announcement hype trailers than the actual game itself
