I don't see a reason for a new DS version with it's still selling a megaton.

First it was a hat, now a shoe. Is there any item of clothing NintendoMan won't eat?
Wear gaudy colours or avoid display. It's all the same.

Nintendo could always change the buttons, make it lighter, improve the battery life, add more on internal memory...the main thing lacking in the DS is good sound quality. The speaker needs improvement.

Well if I was nintendo. I'd unveil a new DS design and release it in Japan, to help stimulate hardware sales. I wouldn't release it anywhere else until the DS sales started slowing down. Furthermore they should release it in combination with the dragonquest launch. That would be an epic week.
Redesign is a pretty shure bet .. new DS is not . Its still early to make an entirely new hardware IMO . It will be the same as the DS but it will be even liter and have a built-in camera or mp3 player IMO :?
