Despite the back-to-back AAA exclusives and bring the best selling console of the year, PS4 is falling behind in YoY. I suppose 17 was the peak.

October 13th Numbers have been added.

The PS4 is up Week over Week for the first time in a loooong while. You'd have to go back to the week after the launch of God of War for the last time it was up. We have Black Ops 4 to thank for that.

Furthermore, the PS4 is has now passed the 10 million mark this year, while the Switch has passed the 8 million mark.

PAO, it looks like the PS4 numbers on this site have recently been bumped up in pretty much every week this year after Sony's recent announcement, so the numbers for PS4 on the OP aren't accurate now.

Yeah adjustments have been made, these are the current totals for 2018.

PS4:       10,715,376
Switch:    8,068,054

I'll look through and see which weeks need updating to save you some effort. PS4 is now only 1.1m behind, not 1.7m behind now. o/

Here's the updated PS4 table should be right, Switch total is only 10k out so should just be one or two weeks that need updating. PS4 weeks 13 onwards were all adjusted. You must have put an awful lot of work into this thread!

I don't get exactly this YOY thing, when we refer to PS4, X1 and Switch.

It could be an interesting parameter if all consoles were released roughly in the same time frame and very close in the total hardware sold : let's assume 3 consoles, X,Y,Z, all released in Q4 2013, where console X has sold globally 80M, console Y 83M and console Z 85M. So in this case if Console X is UP YOY, Console Y is steady and Console Z is slowing down a lot, THIS could be interesting.

But what about PS4, X1 and Swith ?? :) PS4 is crushing X1, over 85M sold right now, X1 less than 40M and PS4 is still crushing X1, at a rate of 3:1,
Switch has just sold 21M, light years far from PS4, and released in March 2017; Shall we be impressed if eventually Switch is UP YOY being a new console ? Shall will be surprised if PS4, after 5 years, cannot keep the record numbers of the previous year, but still outclassing his competitors ?

As far as I'm concerned, this YOY was very interesting at the time of Wii VS PS3 VS 360 : 360 had a very good start, ok, 1 year head start over PS3, which had a slower start and has been suffering in the first 2 years. Wii was amazing in the first 3 years, but after the year 2010, was going down and outclassed by PS3 and even 360. Think that Wii, in 2013 sold only 1,9M, while PS3 8,26M and 360 sold 6,24M. Why am I saying that ? Because it was interesting to see PS3 recovering from an unpleasant situation, catching up with 360, and surpassing Wii in Europe; 360 on the other hand, won in NA, while Wii managed to keep the lead in the Global, even though PS3 was crushing it from 2011.

That was an yearly interesting YOY from 2009, that was "exciting". PS3 and 360 ended very close, a marginal lead of PS3 in the Global, Wii won in the Global, but 360 won in NA ! PS3 also managed to pass Wii in Europe.

What about this Gen ? Can YOY be interesting considering the weekly figures since PS4 has launched ? PS4 has lost 1 week VS X1 in 5 years, and lost 3-4 weeks VS Switch since the Nintendo Console has Launched, and the rest is PS4 domination, and this keep going, with Sony holding back the price cut...

Don't get me wrong, I like statistics, trends, charts comparison, but this Gen my friends is really over, and nothing will change, apart from marginal figures.

 I still like to see these Threads though, as Playstation is my most favourite console ever :)
