Why need? You have a bet running?
While GoW should push the PS4 quite a bit, I don't think it will be enough to beat last years sales, as it had both a very strong winter (leading to this year trailing behind despite MHW push early this year) and spring. GoW can only do so much, over the weeks 2017 will take the lead again.

2017 did have an exceptional first half of the year, the holidays were it's weak point. So even if god of war can't overcome the gap there's still the holidays.
December 2017, you could say was a weak point, because it was down compared to '15 and '16.
November 2017, on the other hand, was the best November in the console's history. That's going to be a tough act to follow for 2018.

Official holiday sell through from Sony (last 6 weeks)
2014-4.1 million
2015-5.7 million
2016-6.2 million
2017-5.9 million
The massive BF last year just seemed to steal sales from Dec.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
I think that the $199 BF deal and the $249 Star Wars and $349 Pro deals in December took some 2018 sales and pushed them into 2017. Which is the main reason why I think 2018 has consistently been trailing behind 2017, aside from big releases to boost hardware like Monster Hunter and God of War.

Same thinking here, along with some slight market saturation setting in.

Week 16 numbers have been added.
To my big surprise, and doubt, the PS4 was below last year's mark, despite God of War being released on this week. I'm certain we will get adjustments later on and this week will be way up. But for now, because I need to get a move on with this comparison, it's down.
Switch and Xbox One are the same story as they've been for a while. Although next week, I expect the Switch to be down WoW, because Week 17 of last year saw the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

I did expect a 75k boost (280k-300k weekly sales), which was probably already below what most people expected, and even that is not getting beaten yet. While Japan pulled the number down a bit, it can't be the only reason. Probably got undertracked due to poor Amazon availability in several countries, we'll see.
About the Switch, yeah it will most probably down, but the weeks after that will quickly turn it back into growing numbers for this year as the heavy supply issues kick in for 2017.

Well, I didn't expect Japan to help because God of War sells about as well as Ice Cream during winter in Japan. But if I recall correctly, there was a special PS4 Pro bundle for God of War that sold out almost instantly when it was available. Now granted, they don't ship nearly as many Pro models as they do Slim models. But I still find it hard to believe that it only did an extra 40-50k, especially with the recent news of God of War already selling over three million copies in its first weekend.
And I agree with you on the Switch bit.
