I'd love to hear world wide sales for December. US sales are interesting of course but it's only partial sales and it does only show one side of the story.

Sony reported 70.6m sold WW as of Dec 3, 2017 and 73.6m sold as of Dec 31, 2017. That puts it about ~3 million.

NPD has Switch at 1.5m along with Media Create at 900k. Others (Europe/Australia/etc) has been right in between Americas & Japan all year so should be 1+ million.

NPD has 3DS at 750k and Media Create has it at 250k. Applying the same logic as Switch for Others puts WW around 1.5m.

XBO is a bit harder to determine but it did 1.365m in the US and typically US makes up roughly 60% of XBO sales so that would put WW around 2.3 million.

WW Dec estimates

NSW-~3.5 million

PS4-~3.0 million

XBO-~2.3 million

3DS-~1.5 million

Interesting estimates, but a few flaws.

1. Your % estimates are for all months I assume, the ratio is much higher for US during Holidays and especially December.

2. PS4 sold through is for only 4 weeks, and then for all other data you use 5 weeks.

OT: Great sales for everyone. It seems these consoles only just got started, we might be in for a long one.

3DS is unexpected.

I think Nintendo just wants to keep it on the market just long enough to beat GBA.

If Nintendo can somehow get 3DS to 80m, I'll be completely satisfied with the era.

Don't agree with this... especially when you consider that the PS4 has been winning the WW battle for a while now.

Good work all round. Sony might have still made it interesting with $249 for all of December. But using that price just from the 17th was a mistake, as I said at the time.

What Farsala is saying is also true. People are using cyber Mondays week's data against Sony's 3-31st Dec data, meaning the comparison is going to be off.

I'm not fully convinced by your estimates. the PS4 has constantly been at the top of the VG Chart worldwide during December so if you had both Switch and PS4 selling the same in December in your estimates I would say, maybe but the Switch completely outselling the PS4 worldwide? I am not so sure.

For the last time.

VGChartz numbers ARE NOTHING.

We have official estimate of Switch outselling PS4 by 420K in USA, and 1.12 million in Japan. That's alone is 1.56 million gap. To this, add the fact that:

Switch has probabily outsold PS4 in Canada, France, and maybe South Korea? It was launch month for Switch, and we know it sold very good (110k), so is definitively possible it beat PS4 in December in that market.

How is PS4 gonna close such a huge gap like that? Swicth has 99.999% outsold PS4 in December worldwide.

Didn't We get the PS4 December sales numbers from Sony? Can't we just compare it to see which sold more.

Edit: The PS4 sold 3.6m units based on the numbers Sony gave from after black Friday to end of the year.

US: 1.08m

Japan: 300k

WW: 2.2m

Switch

US: 1.5m

Japan : 915k

Switch would have to sell 1.18m+ to beat PS4 which is possible.

Good catch, so PS4 & NSW are probably right about the same.

Farsala pointed it out to me that the PS4 numbers were only 4 weeks compared to 5 for the other devices so when factoring that in PS4 & NSW are probably pretty similar.

You can't dismiss vgchartz numbers when we're on the site's forum. It's not an argument.

I dont think it was a mistake, I'm sure Sony knows what they're doing at this point. Plus they were trying to move some of their other hardware (Pro, PSVR).

interesting how on Amazon the battlefield bundle is way behind the regular ps4, just for 18$ savings.
