I bought the Variety Kit.

Just so I make it clear, I don't have kids. My girlfriend and I are still kids in our hearts and the whole idea of Labo was interesting enough for us to jump in. For now, I've only built the RC Car and the Fishing Rod ( she's giving me a pass on those and the motorcycle, but we have to do the house and piano together or else... that's the threat she gave me). Overall, I'm surprised by the quality and ingenuity of it. The building process is simple enough so a kid won't be frustrated and also interesting enough for an adult who like creating things to have fun.

The software seems to have enough depth to last a while and each setup comes with instructions on how everything works and suggestions on what can be done if you have a little bit of imaginations (maybe not the fishing game, this is pretty straight forward).

I already had a good idea of how the Joycons are working, but the Joycon manual in the Discovery mode is really interesting to go through. It explains in detail how the the technology inside the controllers can be used and the potential for them is bigger than I thought.

I still have 3 kits to do, but overall, I'm impressed the concept.

I don't think this will sell or have an impact like Wii Fit, Wii Sports or Brain Age had at their time, but this will sell more than some people expect, especially during holidays.

I agree completely, its fun and interesting enough to play without kids.

Got the variety kit yesterday as well. People may say "it's just cardboard", but Jesus Christ is there ever a lot of cardboard. I built the fishing rod while waiting the two hours for God of War to install, update, update the console's software and then update again. It's actually works a lot better than I expected.

This is pretty amazing, especially given that Switch hasn't even released in China yet! Nintendo need to get their fingers out and release everything in China ASAP, as with this sort of evidence, China could be a HUGE market for them! I just hope they realise there is this sort of demand there.

I had an order on Amazon. Then I cancelled it... then I reordered it because I thought it would be a fun thing for 420.

Anyway, I'm digging it so far. I really wish it had come out when I was younger.

It reminds me of some really basic electronic games I played when I was little, and I mean that in the best of ways. There is totally a place for those kinds of simplistic experiences that you can engage with for a few minutes at a time (especially when you're not being asked for micro purchases).

So far, I made the RC Car and the fishing rod. The car was really cute and fun to make, but I got bored of it kind of quickly. I made the fishing rod, which I'm having more fun with. Making it made me really smile. It's wonderful when you can actually spin it and tug on the string. The game attached to it is basic, but I've been putting it on for a few minutes when I have time to kill to catch a fish or two.

My one complaint so far is a lack of extra pieces. Especially the special non cardboard pieces. I dropped a plastic washer, and couldn't find it and had to use staples instead which I'm hoping holds up. For something kids are going to do, I think they'd have a few extra strings stickers and that sort of thing.

Btw, anyone have some fishing hints? Rays keep snapping my line :(

Agreed. China is a potentially massive market, literally more people than the US, Japan, and Europe combined.

It's simply too big an opportunity for them not to make every effort to tap into.

Yeah that is what it reminded me of too, a modern Tamagotchi, and I remember how much my female peers went nuts for those things back when I was in primary school.

Yep and doubly so, considering how popular Switch stuff seems to be over there. Someone shared an Amazon China best sellers list here in the past and 18/20 of the best sellers was Nintendo stuff. They could be the 1st console company to crack China and it would be massive for the Switch!

Here's a little tidbit.

Labo was directed by Tsubasa Sakaguchi, the director of Splatoon.

Apparently this was something he really wanted to do as he wanted to do something different than the usual game development.
