I struggle to take Star Wars fans seriously anymore - especially when they hold up the original trilogy as the best films ever made. In the 1980s, that may have been true but had they released today I highly doubt they would have been viewed so favourably. To me, episode 8 proves this as it is in the same range of quality but people aren't particularly thrilled. Because of the brad, expectations are unrealistic and therefore people overreact.
I deffenitely hated the casino storyline, terrible, but I would say I enjoyed 70% of the movie and overall I had a good time, not the best movie ever, not the best star wars movie but people are always overreacting lol

To be fair, this film simply doesn’t feel like a Star Wars film; the whole just felt like pointless filler and fluff.

No. I thought there were some pacing issues, namely the Canto Bight subplot dragged a bit too long (plus it had too much prequel-esque stuff going on in the casino). But it was an enjoyable movie. I give it an 8/10. The idea that it's some cinematic atrocity and/or an insult to Star Wars fans is utterly laughable. |

It is an insult to Star Wars as it absolutely destroy the character of Luke, and do a lot of dumb things with the Force and the universe.
All of that in addition of being in itself a bad movie. I would have reviewed it 3/10 as a non SW movie. But with what they did to Luke and the universe, I rate it 0.5/10 since it only left me disgusted.

That's hard to argue, because Star Wars was one of the few films that defined cinema in the United States for the following decades. Today the special effects, the sequels, the merchandising is all so ingrained that is simply how major movies are these days.
It's like explaining to someone now how mind blowing the original Legend of Zelda was on the NES.
