Purely from an art style standpoint I would like to see dreams. Its not 100% sure Dreams is going to hit 2018. But it has been heavily implied and even stated during PSX 2017.

I thought about that one. As soon as they give 2018 the Greenlight, I'll add it.

Nice, let's hope it will hit the stores this year.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I don't think Anthem has a release Window yet however that looks pretty good and if Art Style is another thing to be considered I would say Ori Will of the Wisp is shaping up to be another beautiful game.

How about Dragonball FighterZ?

This is my front runner for GOTY 2018 in the category of Presentation.

Thats fan sentimnet if ever I read it.

I love DBZ and all, but come on, game of the year for presentation and graphics?

While you have GOW, Spiderman and Detroit....or even Anthem all coming out in the same year?

Did I mention GOW?

Being true to its original anime roots doesn't suddenly make it better than everything else out there. Especially when you consider that games like Anthem, Detroit and GOW have to be 100% original. They don't have a pool of references to draw from.

And its almost as if some people only talk "art style" when looking at cell shaded graphics. Thats just one form of presentation. Easiest one to pull off at that. Realistic or "hyper" realistic are all art styles too. And albeit more common cause everyone tries to do those, requires more technical finesse than doing cell shaded stuff.... there is a lot you can get away with when using cell shaded graphics. Especially when it comes to material depictions.

But presentation is a highly subjective matter. If you prefer GOW, that's fine.
But I expect DBFZ to show up on a lot people's of lists, as I expected Cuphead and P5 to do, and they did.

I'm not massively into fighting games myself (but I do love me some GG and BB) and even DBFZ is on my want list. I haven't been this excited for a DB fighting game since Budokai 3.

I think the style DBFZ has, is one that looks more faithful to the design from the anime:

The only fan sentiment there is the attention to detail. (And that's more about being impressed with how diligent they are with things they absolutely didn't have to do.) How gorgeous it looks is not. I feel the same about Guilty Gear. It's absolutely stunning what Arcsys have done with their graphical engine. It's a work of art. And DBFZ looks even better.
On the surface I'm much more impressed with the amount of hand drawn details than rendering skin texture pores in HD. But there's a lot more to presentation than just the surface level visuals. User interface. Music. Etc. (They bought the licensing rights to a lot of the classic music for example.) You say this is easy to pull off, yet no one else is doing this. Certainly not to this degree. And the winner in Art Direction at the 2017's Game Awards was Cuphead. And Persona 5 was a nominee as well. So I'm not sure why you seem so taken aback by my opinion here.
Detroit is not even in the conversation for me in that department. And I say that as a fan of how Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls look (and play). Spiderman is certainly in the running though. GOW... maybe? Probably not. As for Anthem, I expect it to be heavily downgraded, like The Division, and Watch Dogs. If not, then it's a serious contender.

When I say easy to do, I just mean its a lot easier putting out cell shaded graphics than it is doing proper realistic graphics. Or even hyper realistic or CG like graphics. Simply because there is a lot more that goes into how those games look than just nailing the "look and feel" of the anime source material.

You are of course allowed to your opinion, but be mindful that putting said opinion here makes it open for discussion or disagreement...

You may seem to think that no one has been doing it, but believe me cell shaded (and very well cell shaded) graphics has been there for a long time. Okami, Viewtiful Joe, studio gibli games, Majoras mask and now Z:BOW, every naruto ninja storm game, Gravity rush, Persona, ZOE2....... and thats just to name a few. You don't see it often because most games strive to express more graphically than you can do with cell shading or that style simply doesn't suit their artistic direction.

Having said all this though....after reading what you had to say about Detroit and GOW I have realized this is a mistake. Anyway, to each his own I guess.

These are a few examples, but you can find tons and tons of references to the manga/anime.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I've never seen a 2D shader that was this convincing in any cell-shaded game with 3D character models.

They usually just look wrong and stand out like a sore thumb. DBFZ is the closest I've ever seen to actually nailing a 2D animated look (and this includes actual anime tat utilize 3D models...). There's still a little bit of stiffness to the animation compared to handdrawn animation, but that is inherent to working with 3D models wich can't be as easily manipulated and 'cheated' as 2D art.

Overall I have to say I'm extremely impressed with DBFZs presentation and it stood out to me whenever I saw it in trailers, even though I'm at best a casual nostalgic about DBZ in general and have never played any of the games at all.

I think you're underestimating the amount of work that went into the effectswork of these scenes. Some of that is true 2D and probably handanimated.

As for the shading and modeling itself, it is easy to do badly and can be immediately spotted. Nothing TellTale churns out looks even remotely handdrawn. The Windwaker, though gorgeous doesn't look handdrawn at all, even Ni No Kuni, with all the pedigree and Talent of studio ghibli behing it doesn't really quite get there, but DBFZ at a first glance does. They clearly did something diffrent from a plethora of other studios attempting to achieve similar results. I don't know if they custom wrote a new shader, but it was certainly not as simple as 'throw some textures on there and be done with it'.

So you have not seen Naruto Ultimate Ninja  Storm 4? That looks as identical to the anime... hell even better.

Real game or Sony style Cut Scene Simulator on rails?
