They can just use a cheap Ryzen processor and get 60fps in every game easely, even the cheapest AMD Ryzen 1200 outperforms the flagship FX processors from AMD and those all still get the job done on PC, also the cell processor is a disaster to program for. |
Not only that, but Gen 7 was a disaster for Sony. They lost loads of money on the Cell since it was supposed to be in TVs, laptops, you name it.
The Cell was Sony's next great thing at the time and it bombed hard. Not only did it lose them the specs war since it allowed Microsoft to see their specs and optimize them, but it didn't even do what they expected it to do in the PS3. Why do you think they added the GPU? The Cell was originally expected to be able to render graphics on its own, but most 3rd parties ignored it and just used it as a one core processor thus all the average multiplats.
The Cell was also mediocre in the few PCs that it was featured in, so it was a total misfire for them. Unless it was only for BC, I doubt they would even bother. It would be easier to just develop an emulator for PS3 games or just run the PC versions.
I only say all that about the Cell to say: do you really think they're going to bring back the chip that lost them billions of dollars money again? Maybe Microsoft should bring back Windows 8...
