It wasn’t a bad movie. It was ok. This is why you don’t see Lethal weapon 8 or other movies going to episode 5 or 6. Some people are just tired of Star Wars. I still think they have a huge fan base and will make boat loads of money.

What post are you referring to? And why are you trying to set up som sort of seperate rules for how people debate? |
The one you replied to the other day. And I'm not, I have a clear list of reasons why Luke isn't a Gary Stew compared to Rey, and instead of addressing them you decided to nitpick my gender comments.

Glad to know that's the extent of your ability to debate. |
First rule of debating, you have to provide your opponent something to debate on. All you have done is Mock others and rant. As far as I’m concerned this isn’t a debate.

And all you've done is argue semantics of what words should be used and pretend that wanting to exit the limelight makes you not a Mary Sue in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. So again: if you want to discuss this, maybe address some of the points I made above. Otherwise, I invite you to continue not making any legitimate points.

I never wanted to discuss this Lol. YOU butted in to a one line statement directed at someone else. You keep talking about this overwhelming evidence, but have yet to provide any. Also you misquoted my point yet again. So please, continue not making any legitimate points:P

You're lumping Thursday previews in with normal Friday theater hours and calling opening weekend a normal 3-day weekend? Then you turn around and act like it's a fair to compare a not-really-3-day opening weekend with many thousands of extra screenings on Thursday evening to a second weekend possessing a Christmas Eve, a day known for always being bad for box office results?
Yeah. We're done here. Your blind hate for this movie has rendered you incapable of any sort of objectivity in the matter. |
Glad you're going to put that stop while you're behind part into effect. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Oh hey, here's the SECOND TIME I QUOTED YOU WITH EVIDENCE:
1. Luke's one gift in life was his pilot skills, which was attained through practice, not by virtue of being a female Protagonist.
2. Luke lived a normal Tatooine life; Rey "struggled" and is therefore more interesting by default.
3. Luke got fucked by Jawas and nearly got fucked in the cantina; Rey kicked the shit out of a group of armed individuals.
4. Luke was roughly on Han's level of skill when manning the guns in the MF; Rey is a goddess with all forms of technology even though that's not how the force works.
5. Luke had to struggle and concentrate to use force pull in the Wampa cave; Rey accidentally used force pull to much greater effectiveness with no effort from a further distance.
6. Luke not only lost his first lightsaber duel, but lost a damn hand in the process and nearly died; Rey humiliated Kylo, whose only disadvantage seemed to be because he was male.
7. Luke never pulled off any high level force techniques until he'd trained for 3 years; Rey accidentally did the mind trick on the second try.
8. Luke's skill with a blaster could be explained by his proficiency for gunning things down in his ship on Tatooine; Rey instinctively got a kill shot the second time she ever fired a blaster and proceeded to get an insane kill:shot ratio.
9. Luke struggled and failed to lift an X-wing, and barely managed to lift three rocks while balancing; Rey lifted rocks like it ain't no thang and does zero effort.

To be fair, everything in the EU was read and approved by George Lucas. |
THANKYOU! Lucas approved everything in the EU as canon so long as it didn't conflict with the main films and videogames made by Lucasarts. He didn't want to bother with making his new prequels line up with EU content, so he basically retconned everything the EU ever did.
There's two Star Wars mythos out there.
The original trilogy with the EU material, (that doesn't reference the prequels), intact.
The original trilogy with bad prequels, and sequels, and all the EU content that bounces off the prequels and sequels.
One is excellent Science Fiction in the vein of late 70's and early 80's.
The other is just bad fan fiction.
Oh, and this sort of thing isn't just something done by Star Wars. As an IP loses popularity, and as the original creators lose their knack for excellence (or pass the torch to less skilled creators), the quality goes down . Bendis has taken X-Men and thrown it for an infinitely complicated loop with endless time travel nonsense, that he has yet to wrap up. Final Fantasy is nothing like the 90's games. Dragonball Super, and GT went on to give the same treatment to DB and DBZ. Call of Duty is now a joke, compared to the first Modern Warfare games.
As a franchise or IP ages it becomes worse due to additional content being unnecessary, and corporate greed. Star Wars stopped being good around the turn of the century. I'd say KotOR was the last good Star Wars content.

I think I've decided to watch this movie for a second time and see if there's anything I missed - I can say with all sincerity that the movie did very little for me the first time. But I've heard by some that it apparently gets better the second time so who knows..
I've said before, I do appreciate that at least Johnson doesn't just rehash Empire verbatim (minus that end scene) but that doesn't make it any less shallow or flawed. Ep1 and 2 weren't rehashes either yet THEY too were very flawed.
In a way I do think the film had potential but I feel as if it just clashed with the themes/tones/plot points established in TFA, and feels completely disjointed as a result. Things feel rushed and little makes sense, especially when compared to TFA. I think J.J. Abrams should have just been left to finish up this whole trilogy and THEN hand it off to Johnson who could have completely run with his own complete story, where he could have had more creative freedom. It felt as it he wanted to do that but the TFA stuff was holding him back, which is why the film has this weird middle grown between being unique and also having some fan service/"safe" stuff within it.

First actually lol. But first you are comparing a character through a trilogy vs comparing another character with 1. None of these talk about TLJ. So for fairness let’s compare A new hope arguments vs TFA. If you want we can add ESB and TLJ later.
1. It’s never established how good a pilot Luke is. Just through a couple comments made by Luke. But during the attack on the Death Star they sent the best pilots out first, while Luke and company went last (wedge left the fight, so obviously they weren’t great). However, while a more experienced pilot missed the hole, Luke hit it on his first try. Aka Mary Sue.
2. Dumb argument lol. They created 3 very difference characters Poe, Finn and Rey. All of them are interesting for different reasons.
3. Luke was a sheltered child, Rey survived on her own for all of her life. She couldn’t do so unless she was a quick learner. She carries a bow staff around for a reason.
4. WTF? Han was an expert at manning the guns, magically so was Luke. She spent her life fixing things, breaking stuff down, selling stuff etc. of course she understands technology.
5. TLJ “I’ve only seen this power once before, it didn’t scare me then, it does now”
6. Rey can use a bow staff, it’s not farfetched she can use a laser sword. According to the TFA scripts, killing Han weakened Kylo Ren, also he was shot, also he was trying to capture, not kill.
7. See number 5
8. And storm troopers got decimated by teddy bears lol. Clearly they aren’t the smartest bunch. I don’t remember Luke gunning things down on Tatooine with his ship, so I’ll have to pass on this one.
9. See number 5.
I guess I ended up commenting on all of them, oh well. And if you need me to elaborate on number 5 I can, but my point is that the force made Rey and Ben abnormally strong. So obviously she would be more powerful than Luke at first.
