Forums - Nintendo - Pokemon Switch may be using Unreal 4

Welp, this game ain't coming next year, I tell ya

Holidays 2019 at the earliest or the next one at the latest.

UE4 would accelerate development most likely.

And after seeing how well the DQ art style translated to UE4, I would be totally down for this.

And as far as I'm aware, Game Freak isn't really stepping up its staff and hiring much more people to prep make Pokemon Switch a game like no game ever was.

Going from the 3DS to the Switch is a huge leap and two extra staff members just won't cut it for the type of ambitious game that some people, myself included, are hoping for Pokemon Switch to be.

I think the transition to the 3DS to an HD console like the Switch is ambitious enough as it is. Hell, they already pushed the 3DS passed its limits when they created each Pokemon with over tens of thousands of polygons. The lower frame rates during battles are more likely due to hardware limitations than anything. As I said earlier, they would have to create HD assets for over 800+ Pokemon (and who knows if they'll create more species and how many more new species will be there) along with creating new landscapes that have to be bigger than shown in any previous title. Plus, they have to balance the game and provide an effective online format.

If you're expecting an MMO or an open-world to be created and released in 2018 or 2019, you may have to taper expectations.

How about all double battles?

Oh god the worlds first high polygon Pokemon game will make me do something r rated!

The jump from 3DS to Switch is really big, so I have high expectations for this game

People expecting an MMO-like real-time battling like Pokken will need to temper expectations.

Pokémon battling won’t have any drastic changes in this new game imo. They won’t go away from the many dedicated hardcore battlers and same gameplay structure that has been with the games since Red and Blue. That type of real time battling game would end up being a spin-off if anything.

My expectations, HD world with same boundary restrictions like their recent 3DS games. New generation of Pokémon with some prior generation returnees, with Pokémon transfer service down the line.

My dream wish would be an MMO experience that you can interact with other players along with a single player mode that you can still see other players names. Like how Xenoverse 2 handles things.
