Anyone for the 51st United State? I want D.C. to be it since I live in Arlington although Puerto Ricans have strong feelings about this as well. Thoughts?

DC will never be a state since it is the capital and it would be unfair compared to other states. A much more likely scenario is Puerto Rico becoming the 51st state.

I believe that DC stands a good chance at statehood in the future. The 2006 pop. is 581,530. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/11000.html Rhode Island, currently our smallest state, has 1,067,610 people. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/44000.html I do not believe that it would be "unfair."
