Sony has lost Japan since 2006, except for the PSP. Ever since that year sales have been bad for PS homeconsoles. This year is the best year for the PS4 in Japan and worldwide. The PS3 and PS4 have sold the same amount of units when you align launches.

On an unrelated note you don't need Japan to still sell a shot load of consoles.

Ps3 sold well in japan, its just that it had actual competition.the 360 being a niche but still viable pick and the wii... being the wii, and also considering the fact that the ds/psp was powerful enough so that lots of games erre made on them instead.

The things is, the ps4 is starting to trail behind  theps3 despite the fact that it had no competition untill the this year...

Good point!

At least Kerotan and Law are consistent in the different regions they post, Someone like Tbone is curiously absent in the UK threads every week because he can't make the same fiery arguments (outside the proverbial Nintendo is weak in the UK) I always find him throwing here in Japan. Maybe that should be the mantra for Playstation and Japan. Its sales are not up to snuff because Japan is their weakest market...and call it a day.

Wut?

Kerotan and Tbone are literally different sides of the same coin. Neither should be encouraged. Ironically, your example of Tbone downplaying something ("Nintendo is weak in the U.K.") isn't as bad as Kerotan saying in this thread that "Switch sales affecting the PS4 in Japan is a myth", but I guess you didn't see that comment or consider it.

Both are incredibly weak excuses used by people to try and make arguments against their companies seem less viable, but at least Tbone's example is fucking right at the very least. I mean, it's one thing when someone says it as an excuse, but the statement is still honest and what else could you really expect?

If 175k people win the lottery every week in a population of 35M (what the DS sold), then, yeah no more poor people.

Yeah and then selling out lmfao. You play the same song every week. Its getting repetitive lol

I don’t think I’ve even posted in the media create thread of the past few weeks, seeing as how Japan in becoming increasingly irrelevant.

You get wound up so easily it's hilarious. So what if he didn't post last week. Don't tell him what to do.

Anyway next interesting week for ps4 will be MHW beta and bundle week.

He didnt post last week because nothing negative could be said about nintendo like this week. Its ok i get on people like him, its a problem of mine. Like how you cant help it with your great post!

You know that makes no sense, right? I wait for the Switch’s biggest week yet to post? What? The only this discussion is going on is because I commented that I think the stock issues are over.

Fact is 2017 overall is up nicely over 2016.

Will it be in 5 weeks? Its up by less than 170k YOY and like you said, its down so far this quarter and there is no reason to think that will change since PS4 got Final Fantasy XV & Yakuza 6 in weeks 48 & 49 last year and has nothing near as big as that this year.

PS4 sold ~475k (95k/week) in the last 5 weeks of 2016. If PS4 sells 350k in the last 5 weeks of this year it will be up less than 3% YOY.

Obviously any growth is good but you are exaggerating how much its up.

Don't forget that I've read in a ton of other threads how year 4 is a consoles strongest year sales wise. So PS4 should be doing its best in all regions by that alone this year. The fact that is is slowing down this quarter and barely outselling last year says something for Japan.

This thread is very interesting. Anyway on non Switch hardware related news. Zelda has gone up by 116%! What's even more crazy is that Animal Crossing went up by like 200% and that game is five years old. Animal Crossing will leave no survivors when it launches on the Switch.

Which really makes us hope that the AC Switch game is like Q1 2018. They should have realized by now that their mobile releases bump the console games sales big time. It's like a giant massive marketing campaign. Be stupid to not have a new AC ready for early next year to relish in the current consumer awareness.

You said it yourself. Every week. Shortage won't end in just 1 week.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

That kind of goes against your "shortage" argument.

Your statement here makes it sound like 35 million people want the Switch (DS owners), thus only 175k available each week means that people will be scrambling for a long time to get one.

As I said - seems like they’re pushing the stock to brick and mortar stores and not Amazon. Because otherwise, why ship to countries like AU where it’s getting over 20% discounts for BF?

Same reason PS4 Pro received $60 discount 2 weeks after launch on Black Friday by Amazon and Target.  To attract customers to your stores rather than your competitors. Switch doing great definitely bothers you too.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/213-xbox-one-or-ps4-340-ps4-pro-and-more-console-d/1100-6445744/

And that 20% discount Switch in Australia?  That was for one day on Myer's eBay site.
https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2017/10/hump-day-deals-myer-20-off-sale-cheap-nintendo-switchs-gadgets-galore/

EB Games Australia had a 20% discount back in September but that was for ALL consoles and it required an online code and also very limited.

Don't try to pass that 20% off as some permanent, official price cut.

The PS4 Pro isn’t the main model though. The PS4 did not receive any discount, and certainly not a $100 discount, in its first year on the market in AU.

And I’m not talking about those Switch discounts in October, September, June (yes within 4 months), I’m talking about the $100 discount last week.

Interpret it as you will but truth is that the Switch is getting discounts in a way that the PS4 didn’t in its first year.

The amount of damage control in this thread by some types is astounding.

Japan is becoming irrelevant? When? How? Since when did UK (my own country) overtake Japan??
