it may not have sucked b4, but now it does. the recent numbers just came in and, 10,000? wtf? cmon now. ps3 was popular last year and in 2006 in japan, but what happend now? has japan chosen th wii as its main console? what does ps3 need to have in order to boost japan sales? will ff13 do the trick?

Japan tends to choose one central console as everyones main console... in the last couple of years, many in Japan weren't sure which console would become the dominate one. Now that the Wii is the dominant one, the other console sales will drop off.

(That's what I think anyway... :)

price, games, size, simply everything. Sony needs ps3 lite asap.

Edit: Also, maybe they are waiting for the MGS4 console, it is sold out at the moment. Maybe Sony shouldn't have conformed the new colour console so early...

I'd bet anything that once they launch a Slimline PS3, with a lower price, sales will skyrocket.

I would expect sales to pick up in June, but I don't see much else boosting sales for a while

Hey, we just saw how Monster Hunter drove PSP sales up and the console version is headed to the Wii. PS brand also lost Dragon Quest to the DS. FF couldn't come early enough. Varying factors here.

The PS3 didn't always do well in Japan last year. I remember in June (when I got my PS3 in America, by the way) it was outsold by the Wii by a ratio of 6:1. That is pretty bad. Also, as XBrawl said, Japan tends to choose the console that ends up as top dog. Last generation was definitely the PS2, and this one seems to be the Wii.

Well I believe their will be a time that the PS3 will come back. Where is the time where the members on this site laughed how bad the PSP sold in Japan and how DS pwns the PSP every week.

When some of the hot Japanese games will release the PS3 will sell well :).

Price and games. The ps3 has no JRPGs aside from Folklore and Enchanted arms, the first of which is more Action oriented then most RPGs, and the latter of which just sucked. As more JRPGs, and some other popular game franchises in Japan start coming out sales will pick up.

HSG5 and DW6 did their parts, but those two games alone were not enough to keep the ps3's sales afloat. MGS4 will help as well, but it really needs something like GT5, or the even bigger FFXIII to really push consoles. Big games like this, coupled with a steady release of games like WKC and ES in between will help increase weekly sales.

The only problem is that games like FFXIII, White Knight Chronicles, Valkyria Chronicles, Eternal Sonata, etc. are still a long ways off.
