The PS3 didn't always do well in Japan last year. I remember in June (when I got my PS3 in America, by the way) it was outsold by the Wii by a ratio of 6:1. That is pretty bad. Also, as XBrawl said, Japan tends to choose the console that ends up as top dog. Last generation was definitely the PS2, and this one seems to be the Wii.
