I'm guessing two Mario games; New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Paper Mario.

SimTower

  • Mac OS
  • 1994
  • Construction & Management Simulation
  • Maxis

'SimTower' is a personal classic, my introduction into the 'construction and management' genre and my introduction to the series of 'Sim' games. SimCity, SimTown, SimAnt, SimCopter; I played most, though only a few would be able to enter my personal hall of fame, and few would resonate as much in the rest of my gaming life.

In 'SimTower', the player is the manager of a skyscraper, which is under construction, starting from scratch, while it is in use. The end-goal is to build the 'Cathedral' on the 100th floor and receive the 'Tower' rating after going through the usual 1-5 Star hotel ratings. In this skyscraper, you can build condominiums, office space, shopping malls, food courts, hotel rooms and several utilities, while in the basement there can also be waste management, parking garages and even a subway station.

As one of the earliest computer games I ever played, it was an event in my family. Going so far as leaving it on while eating dinner, turning up the volume and overhearing the money rolling in while we were downstairs. This is also the very first game that ever got pirated in our house, which is a questionable distinction, but there it is. Back then, pirating was so easy, you could literally just copy/paste the entire game by dragging the files from the floppy disc onto the computer. Flicking the little write-protection switch on the side of the disc was all that stood in the way. Those were the days!

During development of this game, comparisons were made to a very famous movie-spy. The developers subsequently changed the game's main antagonist to being female instead.

Correct on both

No One Lives Forever.

More clues.

#37 This SNES game managed to become twice the size of what would normally be possible by telling the story in such a way that they could reuse most of the overworld art assets.
Hint 2: The title suggests that this is a prequel to the NES entries.

#36 This PC game lets you get as close to the D&D experience as possible through adventure creation and even allowing the GM to change the adventure on the fly.
Hint 2: Although the game came with a full single player campaign, the level editor was touted as the game's main feature.

#35 This is the first SNES entry in a very prolific franchise. It has arguably the best controls for your main weapon compared to every other entry in the franchise.
Hint: The game involves you fighting your way through the home of the game's main protagonist.

#35 Pokémon Red & Blue?
#34 Super Mario 3D World? (edit: oh, okay.)

#39 Castlevania: Circle of the Moon / GBA

The actual best Metroidvania from the series, mixing the great maze like exploration of the genre with the challenge and fast pace of the classic games makes for one intense adventure, with the usual style and memorable soundtrack with both old and new tracks, is quite great.

#38 Castlevania: Rondo of Blood / TG-16

The only reason I'm putting this game here is because of Maria, she is awesome, she has a stand and a bunch of animal friends, she can double jump, just 10/10 (on top of the great level design, multiple level routes and secrets, great visual and killer soundtrack).

That is correct!
